I want to put drywall over old ugly plaster in a bedroom-wall and ceiling. The current cost if I hired professionals is around $2.50/sq ft. How much cheaper would it be to do it myself and for those of you who have played with drywall is it worth the trouble.

My husband and I both love HOUSES. We've both done construction;I've been a superintendent twice for two major residential construction builders in my area, we have tools, I LOVE LOVE LOVE doing Interior Design (I'm quite confident in my talents), my husband LOVES redoing and making house plans (he plans to be an architect), we love business, we build our own furniture, and we love old/abused homes to remodel, fix up, and sell!! How and where and what do we do to get into this??

I dropped the hot iron on a red/rusty colored carpet. I managed to scratch it off but you can still see the shape where the iron burned the carpet. How can I camouflage this?

I thought of intentionally staining it with something but I don't know what. I can't cut it off and replace the carpet, I don't have extra carpet. I've done all the brushing over I could do.

Any advice please?

The bowl was originally unfinished or lightly oil-finished wood, possibly maple. The stains are not only darker than the surrounding wood but sticky. I'm sure they are vegetable oil, not petroleum based. Thanks in advance for the great advice!

I live in a mobile home park. Every house has a storage shed that was built sitting directly on the dirt when the home was installed. The shed is about 8x10, made of wood whatever that siding is that they put on new mobile homes. Since it is sitting on the dirt, it seems to me that it will begin to decay and also will get termites (in fact, it has them already). I wish it could have been built on a concrete slab, but the park does not allow that. So I was thinking it would be good to raise it up on bricks around the exterior wall, at least, so it is not sitting on the dirt.

But how to go about that? The thing ways a near infinite amount, as far as I can tell (though it has no foundation below the dirt), and there is no way to slide something like a jack under one side unless I dug a hole under the side. So how to raise it? Or is it a bad idea?

And is there something I can put for termites in the boards touching the dirt short of having it tented? The floor is plywood.

I was given have a Duncan Phyfe style dining room table that is Mahogany (not veneer) solid wood, approximately 70 y/o. We use this set as our everyday table. It gets a white water stain immediately whenever any water touches the table even if I dry it right away. I have used Howard's Restore-A-Finish which removes the white marks but how do I seal the table so this doesn't happen. We would like to be able to use the table without being so careful and paranoid of drips every meal. I would prefer not to have to completely refinish the table. Also, I want to make sure I don't use a product that will ruin the finish.

Currently I have GAS heating (Forced AIr) and it is very expensive. I do have a woodburning fireplace but only use it in the evenings when I am home. If the wood would last in there all day it would be fine.

I would like to eliminate the need for GAS heating this winter. I am considering electric space heaters, radiant space heaters, etc. I wonder if the costs of that could be less than with natural gas.

I would leave the temperate in the home at about 70 *F

I live in North East Ohio and the winter temps get to be in the 20's F, sometimes less.

If anyone has any suggestions, please!

We have some old latex paint - about 4 gallons in a 5 gallon bucket. When we opened it the liquid at the top was nearly clear and all the solids had settled to the bottom to form a nearly solid gooey mass. When I was stirring it, pool ball size chucks of solids would come up. We would like to use this on a woodshed so I'm not worried about it being perfect just resonably usable. My plan was to stir it a couple of times a day for a number of days, breaking the masses then strain it prior to use. Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Hi. We have had our mortgage provisionally accepted, and were told we could now look for and make an offer on a house. We have found one and made an offer within the amount we were allowed to borrow. What do we do next? Could someone lay it out in laymans terms, what comes next, the finalising of the mortgage, solicitor or survey. Please help.
