The bowl was originally unfinished or lightly oil-finished wood, possibly maple. The stains are not only darker than the surrounding wood but sticky. I'm sure they are vegetable oil, not petroleum based. Thanks in advance for the great advice!

It sounds like you might not have a fixable bowl...I've experienced this with wooden kitchen products and just had to part with them. One thing you can do is just appreciate that it's an antique and let it sit on the shelf. The reason I'm not recommending to clean it in any way, is because it will compromise its strength and maybe do more harm then good.

Haha, I had no way to respond to your answer.. I appreciate your answer, and yea it is me. I have friends of all sorts and of course.. I have several good white friends, though.. I'm not their type, I can tell. I mean, is that what people only look for? Sex? Penis size? Why! It's not cool, we're born this way! Anyways, to answer your qusetion... I have no clue, I wash my dishses with detergent and I don't think I have any oil stains that's too deep to sand out. I just leave it there. I'm turning 16. -_-

find a local woodcraft's and ask him/her to make you a new bowl and retire the old one and enjoy the new one.... wood is not meant top last forever. cherish the past memories and use the new

there is no way of getting these oils out, you can blend it to where it all looks the same.
