Vigilance! You must be commited to this. Empty all of your kitchen cabinets of food and dishes and put them under plastic. Have an exterminator spray the whole house. You will have to do this every month for several months, but eventually you will get them all. If you live in an apartment, EVERYONE will have to be sprayed at the same time, or else they will just run to the one not sprayed and back again.

I once turned on the kitchen light and they didnt run away they kept eating. It takes very attractive food to keep them from responding to light. I looked and I saw I had left a drip of egg yolk on the counter top.
Now knowing their favorite food I laced some with boric acid from the pharmacy (no prescription needed)
It has to be replaced daily. Make a fresh batch each night before you turn the lights out.
You will see a profound difference in days. It works better than any spray I tried. Evidently they can smell it from far away and it kills them quickly. I think it kills any roach that nibbles on a dead roach because it lasts a long timeafterwards.
I am told a pint of boric acid powder at home depot is about $3
