Because they regard it as a drastic step in decorating, and you didn't ask them first.

Ok, it may be your room - but they are ultimately responsible for the condition of the home you live in, whether you own or rent it. (If you rent, you may be in trouble with the landlord, too - your parents even more so!) I'll bet they find the checkmarks unattractive, the paint may smell unattractive to them too, and certainly anything spray painted on a wall is going to be hard to clean off or cover over.

To get back in your parents' good graces, offer to clean off the spray paint and repaint over the area (you can ask here to find out how). Then set up a serious-but-friendly discussion with them about how far you're allowed to go in customizing your room. For example - next time you want check marks in your room, could you put them on a bulletin board, or tack up paper ones? Or if you really like spray paint, could you spray onto poster board or fabric outside, then hang it up in your room?

lol...wow...why don't you buy a place of your own and have someone spray paint on your walls....I think you'd understand

Next time, why don't you put clear contact paper up on your walls. Then decorate however you want--on the contact paper. That's what I used to do. It's removable and won't leave permanent damage on the walls

did'cha think to ask??? unless your paying rent or making house payments once in awhile--you have no right to destroy the looks of their home....Its their property--how about they spray checkmarks all over your clothes and shoes??? Adults work
constantly to pay for a roof over family's head--and thats how you say thanks!! Nice job--sarcasm !!

Depends...did they give you permission to paint your room? If not, that's probably why.
