ndler's lift!!!
We recently bought a new sofa and she wants me to struggle up the stair case to our flat. She says taking it up the Schindler's Lift would be too painful and may block access for the rest of the residents!!!!!!
Funny thing is, I'd have to go up the back passage to get to the stairs anyway.

Should I just give in and do it the way she wants me to?

I've just recently moved into a new apartment my father has renovated. The contractor says the cracks on the marble flooring is just part of its design but its very obvious it isnt.
Do marble flooring always crack? or should I be afraid of it?

I'm a 17 year old kid, and I have too much furniture! I can't change my furniture because I'll be going off to college fall of 2008 but I want a somewhat modern room - what can I do to "temporarily" modernize it for a low cost and make it look like a 17 year old lives here? I've got a tall dark wood dresser, 2 dark wood night stands, a long dark wood dress, big dark wood mirror and a queen size dark wood bed -- it doesn't look like a kid should be living here -- what can I do to make it "cool" at a low cost? Posters didn't help :/

We are using 4 stakes to square 15 by 15 ft on the ground. I don't know the name of the tape measure we are using but it is wrapped up and and controlled by a handle. Can someone tell this in detail to me? I don't want to look like a fool doing this infront of everyone...

I live in New England where it doesn't normally get that hot, but this year it's already in the 90's and its only May. I need to keep the rooms upstairs cool without use of an air conditioner. Every room has a fan and we have coverered up all the windows with dark fabric to try to keep the cool air in. But its still HOT. Any ideas?

I have some light fixtures I want to replace. Two are flat, metal panels with round bulbs sticking out. The panels are mounted directly to the wall and there does not appear to be any visible screws on the face of them. They are in the bathrooms.

The other one hangs over head in the dining room. It's a tacky faux chandelier thing but instead of crystals or glass, it has these small fake candle lights. The bulbs look like flame. I want it gone.

Help!

Are plantation shutters hard to keep clean? Are there any drawbacks to woods shutters being used INSIDE the house on windows instead of miniblinds?

Not sure of I should use this system. There are soo many ways to do a shower pan. This seems to be an easy way for a do-it yourselfer.

Hey there. My husband and I are in the process of purchasing our first home. The home that we fell in love with needs some updating...mostly cosmetic. I was curious if you could give me round-about costs for the following repairs. I know that it is hard being that there is not much info about the house, but a rough idea is good since we really have no clue. Keep in mind that we will be updating the house "on a budget." I know I can spend a million $ updating a kitchen, but what do you think is the min I can get away with.
1. Exterior siding (the house is about 1700 sq ft. not sure if that helps)
2. bathroom tiles
3. updated kitchen (cabinets and floors)
4. A fence
5. Doors (bedroom and main doors)
6. Windows (I know there is at least one bay window, then the rest seem to be regular ol' windows).

Thanks!

I have tried the regular stuff like spray paints and model car paint but they are either to shiney or dull gray. I need it to refinish a mirror frame. Is there a paint or technique I can try to get a brushed nickel and or stainless steel look?

I have a room where the walls are pock-marked because of wallpaper removal. I want to texturize the walls, but not a heavy texture. I thought about paint with sand, but I've heard it's tricky to use. Has anyone used it before?
