I've just recently moved into a new apartment my father has renovated. The contractor says the cracks on the marble flooring is just part of its design but its very obvious it isnt.
Do marble flooring always crack? or should I be afraid of it?

Beauty of marble is... it DOES NOT CRACK if laid out properly... your contractor is lying to you.

Main reason is that the under-flooring was not level or was sub-standard. Uneven under-flooring ALWAYS leads to instantaneous cracks in the stone flooring on top. Secondly, if the marble itself was of inferior quality, then also it will crack with the amount of weight which is being put on it, regardless of the status of the under-flooring.

and I know what I am talking about since I run a stone studio (with more than 50 stones in range inluding marble). My brother runs the interiors team which does the laying of stone, hence we know why the cracks happen!!

Simple test is to check the level of the floor with a water-mark. Check if the instrument lifts away from the floor at any point.

Get your money back sweetie... or sue him... did you or your father have a written contract with him to fall back on??

Any time a hard surfaced tile is used on a floor, the subfloor needs to be prepped and any voids patched. The problem may also be that the subfloor was not strong enough to hold the weight and is flexing. The contractor is lying to you.

Well in case you have yellow/brown marble floor, I might recommend any color of brown. Also all colours paintings with the white trim, actually! Actually I could recommend a orange/brown colour. Sort of like a brick pink virtually? It could paintings, you must get samples and brush them at the wall to make a decision which colour. Anything within the brown vicinity must paintings, and if now not probably a few vibrant colour! Yellow would not paintings so good because of the yellow floor, however a color of white would not harm. Overall, I might move with a color of brown!

It means that the subflooring is unstable and the contractor didn't install blueboard to stabilize it.

You should complain for it's lack of quality... maybe your contractor is trading your money for cheap materials to save money for himself

It was not installed properly. Have the tile guy redo it. Floor must be level.
