Are plantation shutters hard to keep clean? Are there any drawbacks to woods shutters being used INSIDE the house on windows instead of miniblinds?

They both have their pros and cons. Get someone who can SEE your house to give you their opinion.

It depends on what your house looks like and where it is located. Anything kept on the outside of the house will present cleaning problems. All inside window treatments have to be cleaned from time to time. One is not more difficult than another. I personally dislike wood blinds; too big, bulky, dark in color. Translucent honeycomb shades are the best. They let light in, allow for some privacy and have some insulation value.

Depending primarily on the fabric chosen, curtains can be either extremely inexpensive or surprisingly costly. The soft look of fabric is essentially the only real benefit that curtains offer. When closed for privacy they also block out most air and light. When open for air flow they offer absolutely no privacy or light control. Curtains attract dust and dirt; to keep them looking their best you must remove them and have them cleaned (often via expensive dry cleaning) on a regular basis.

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/pXoV0
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

Wood blinds seem to be very popular right now but they can be a little pricey. Everything has to be dusted periodically.

Be very careful of shutters. If they are not used bees will build their hives behind them.
