I am in the process of building a new home in the next year. I was wondering, how does the process go about when all the blueprints are done and finding a contractor? Like do you just hand in the plans for your home to a contractor and just wait for bids?

As per Feng Shui, is it bad to have the Master Bedroom directly above the Kitchen? In our new home, I realized that our bed is directly above the stove. I was told by a friend that a bed over stove creates negative energy and the person who sleeps over the stove may fall ill. IF this is true, what can be done to rectify this problem...hang crystals, etc.? Please note, we are unable to move the bed position due to space limitation.

What kind of fastener would one use to mount a heavy shelving unit to a concrete basement wall? And how does one go about mounting such a unit without doing damage to the wall? Is concrete like would in that it will not crack or chip so long as one makes a pilot hole almost as wide as the particular bolt? What precautions are neccessary?

Hi, I'm looking for a new idea to hang my Christmas cards this year. I don't want to put them on the fireplace or fridge....again..... I'd like to try something new and original, something crafty. Any suggestions?

I found a great print that I want to get my boyfriend for Christmas. It is 32.25 x 24.5, sort of an odd size. Art.com charges a lot to send it pre-framed.....how can I purchase a frame for this print for cheaper? Thanks!

Our basement has one finished room and the rest is just bare stone walls - pretty creepy! Is there any quick ways for finishing a basement - I am not sure if whitewashing over the stonewalls would be an option - also the flooring at the moment its just concrete- I wont really be using the rooms down there but I want them to look more finished than they are!!

The carpet is an indoor/outdoor with very tight nap. It is very hard to vacuum and ugly from years of wear and tear. I do not have the money to replace it, but I have to cover it. My rooms are huge and I want to cover up as much of the ugliness as I can. I don't think an average area rug will be big enough. I have even considered having carpet(even new indoor/outdoor) cut to size and laying it in the room..... any other ideas or tricks I could try??

My husband did the floor tiling using the correct adhesive, thickness etc, but some of the tiles keep lifting and the cement will not dry out evenly. After two attempts and lots of expense we are at a loss as to why this is happening. It occured to me that the person who installed the heating perhaps ought to have laid it with matting over the top of it.

The installer says not, but what else could be the cause of the cement not drying on some of the tiles. Some have dried out perfectly well and are fixed others are not.

The concrete floor has the correct screen and was not damp prior to laying the tiles. Does anyone have any ideas please? Before we both go loco.

i'm not sure about whether i need a flat/matt finish or if it needs to be acrylic or oil paint etc. i rather like the 'calky' white finish some pieces have.
further, do i need to sand back varnish or can i just do extra coats?
thanks!

This is a wall bracket with spokes that come out the top, fanning out like a garden rake so that the shower curtain spreads out in a semi-circle above a bath (hung from the end of the spokes). Any other solutions for use of a shower above free standing bath (placed against the wall)?
