Try to tie in your garage sale with the annual garage sale that most towns or neighborhoods have. This brings out people in droves, because they can go less distance and see more. And Buy more! If your town doesn't have one, then organise one, get special pricing on advertising with the local newspaper. Our newspaper office used to print up maps in the paper with a guide to where each advertiser was located. Included in the price of their ad was a sign to put in their front yard showing they were part of the yard and garage sale day. Good luck

In West Tennessee we have a 50 mile long garage sale every first weekend in September. It's nice and cool. Everyone sets up their front yards and garages and sells everything under the sun. People are out and about anyway because of the holiday that weekend and people spend all year gathering items to sell. It's a lot of fun. I made $150 this past September....)(

Actually it doesnt really matter what time of year you have a garage sale. I would think it's an all year round ordeal. But do have a garage sale on Fridays thru Sunday and make sure the day you have it on is of good weather.

Weather has a huge factor to do with Garage Sales. If its too cold / rainy to go outside - then I would absolutely advise against holding a garage sale.
Also keep in mind that you want to present your product (the things in your garage sale) when the consumer has money. A great time is after holidays (never before).

During warm weather or weather that permits people to be comfortable. I nice spring afternoon or even if you want to do it this winter look at the forecast for a possible sunny not to cold day and put out flyers to tell about your garage sale and people will come. I would do if before the holidays because people wont have much money afterwards but people will come to get bargains and deals off of your sale for maybe even possible gifts or things for their house.. good luck

Here in New England, garage sales (a.k.a. tag sales) are big in the Spring, Summer and Fall.

I would have to say right before Summer. It's just enough time for people to recover from all that Holiday shopping, and it's right before the Summer vacation season. Most people's pockets are a little bit heavier during this time, and the weather is favorable.

Best guess? Summer.
While it's true more people will be away from home on vacations, those tend not to be the people who shop at yard sales anyway.
Warm weather = more people early in the morning out to see your stuff.
