When it comes to painting the house, your primary choice is between water-based and oil-based paints. Beyond that, considerations such as sheen (which refers to the amount of light reflected by paint) depend largely on your tastes. Here are some guidelines.
Instructions

* STEP 1: Select 100% acrylic latex (water-based) paints for exterior use. Latex provides a pliable finish that is reliable for exterior use.
* STEP 2: Select either latex or oil-based paints for interior purposes.
* STEP 3: Use a flat sheen for interior/exterior walls, excluding kitchens and bathrooms. A flat sheen provides a non-light-reflective, rich finish.
* STEP 4: Use low-luster (eggshell) sheen for a flat finish in kitchens and bathrooms. This is a durable and washable paint good for areas that are in contact with water. (Semigloss also works well for kitchens and bathrooms.)
* STEP 5: Use a semigloss, gloss or high-gloss paint for trim and woodwork. High-gloss is very light reflective (shiny), and is also easy to clean.

Tips & Warnings

* Latex paints are fast-drying and require only water for thinning and cleanup.
* Latex paints have fewer fumes and odors than oil-based paints.
* Oil-based paints are slow-drying and require mineral spirits for thinning and cleanup.
* Oil-based paints have strong, smelly fumes but are extremely durable.
* Oil-based paints are not generally used on exteriors because of the adverse effects of varying weather conditions.

Use a high quality paint. The labor is the same, but a really good quality paint will last much longer and hold up to pressure washing every few years.

Strangers cannot guess what color should go on your house. What color is your roof? What are the materials your house is built of? Are the majority of the houses in your area earth tones or pastels or whatever?

Go to Home Depot or Lowe's or a Painting store and find the coordinated color samples.
These will have the trim color, wall color. Pick up several of the sample folders you like and come home and study them for a good decision.

It depends on what type of people are there in your home. If there are children, u can use ORANGE or SKY BLUE color with cartoon pictures. For old people, cold colors like LIGHT GREEN or YELLOW would be best. For middle aged people, colors like PINK would do & for youngsters, light RED or orange would be the best. It`s better if u ask them their color choice and color every room likewise. The living room should always be coloured from a cold color.

Remember that use the paint from which stains can be easily removed.

Assuming you are referring to indoor paint, BEYR paint at Home Depot is good quality. Last week I painted my bedroom with it, it applies well and looks great. I would recommend satin finish...semi-gloss will be too shiny and matte will be too hard to clean.
