I'm renting a small house from my parents and the white walls are driving me nuts. I've offered a deposit to paint things back after I leave but they are stubborn. Any ideas?

I've never purchased a leather sofa before, but due to recently diagnosed allergies this has been recommended to me. I'm pretty confident that I can choose one that looks good to me. What I'm wondering is if there are other things I should be looking for when I am shopping around...? There seems to be a wide range of prices on leather sofas out there. It's a bit overwhelming.

My home is on a concrete slab and is very cold in the winter. I am planning on recarpeting and/or using hardwood (laminate). Is there something I can put down prior to carpeting to keep the coolness or moisture out?

I thought I was painting unstained wood, but after I painted several cupboards, they soon started peeling. What should I do? My cupboards are in an unfinished state.

I'm new to Canada and the various paints etc....there are more finishes here than in UK; I don't want the mess or smell of oil-based paint, as these are interior doors. Where do I start - what sort of primer, then top coat? I don't want a shiny, glossy finish.

I got an old mahogany table with the top in light/golden colours with a stunning pattern on it, it almost looks like flames. However there are some scratches on it and I was thinking of using sandpaper to remove these and then re-paint it. But I'm uncertain how the flame effect was made and can I get the same effect and how?

I painted my walls pink (cherry soda to be exact :-)). I really wanted to put up black picture frames because it looks good against the pink wall but would that clash with the brown furniture?
