A friend of mine used glass bowls with marbles in them. She filled them with water and put floating candles in them. They were very pretty.

You can purchase mirror tiles, hurricaine vases, candles, and fall colored leaves, maybe some mums, fall asters(if you like these flowers).

If you purchase hurricaine vases with the diameter being no larger than 3 inches at the bottom then you can buy at the $1. store the round center votives. This will give you a base to work with, you can pull the flowers off of it and purchase your own flowers and fall colored leaves from Walmart or wherever you find what you like, and you just put them on the round center votive that you bought at the $1 Store. You can fill up the hurricaine vase with stone pebbles, which you can buy at $1. Store in a variety of colors. Fill approx 1/3 so the candle can stand up in it. Tie about 3 bows (tiny ones) among the leaves and flowers as well. Just get ribbon to go with your colors, make sure it is not thick but fairly thin, as you don't want the bows to look out of place, basically the bow will be very tiny you just want the effect of some ribbon lace amongst the leaves and flowers. The refection off of the mirror is very pretty. Congratulations on your Big Day!

Buy silk fall leaves at Walmart or Michaels or some other craft store. Put them in the bottom of a basket or glass bowl with apples on top of the leaves. Oorrr.. Buy the cheap closet length mirrors for under $10 with the going back to school supplies. Put fall colored leaf swag on top of the mirror, intertwine pillar candles.

The best way is to check the florist website. They have lots of ideas and you can pick one and create your own. Congratulations and best wishes to both!

Excerpt from another website.
So for starters, this message was sent to me by Alaina and gives great details on how to make cost-effective candle centerpieces:

"Steps:

Clean out empty moist cat food cans - one per couple and let dry thoroughly.
Take can-opener and make a hole wide enough to fit a candle in it. The width of the bottom of the candle determines the width of the hole.
Cut and glue a circle of felt (any color) with a hole in the center and glue to outside bottom of the can.
Alternate and glue 3 large and 3 small roses/rose buds (or any flower you prefer of proportionate sizes) so the flowers end at the edge of the can (not over) and hides the base of the candle.
Optional: glue a piece of felt around the side of the can.
Wrap and glue 2 individual layers of lace around the side.
Glue a string of (small) pearls around the top edge of the can.
Insert candle.
You can color-coordinate these to the color theme of your wedding. Enjoy these inexpensive yet beautiful favors!"

Next, from Mari comes a great suggestion for making luminarias as centerpieces:

"I had an idea that I wanted to share. I was agonizing over the center pieces for our wedding. Then it came to me! I'm part Hispanic, so what better than using a traditional Hispanic way with candles? I've decided to use luminarias (AKA luminaries) on each table. I found lots of sites that had them, but I decided to use plain white paper bags and stencil in an ivy design (similar to our invitations) for color. One reminder, don't forget to put sand in the bottom of the bag so that the candle has a sturdy base and there is something to catch the wax.

"Breakdown on the luminarias:

Bags (8 cents each at Paper Warehouse)
Candles (20 cents each at Wal Mart)
Ivy vine (1/2 price at Hobby Lobby; $4 for 9 ft., approx. 11/2 ft around base of each bag)
Ivy stencil (4.99 at Hobby Lobby)
Green paint ($1.99 at Hobby Lobby)
Stencil paintbrush ($1.99 at Hobby Lobby)
Sand (we already had some)
"For a grand total of $1.53 per luminaria (we assumed 20 luminarias). Total cost to decorate all of the tables and outside lining the sidewalk where people come in, $52.00. Beat that!

"Plus, we've found a place nearby that will make us a custom stamp (for about $12). We're going to get our initials made into a stamp and stamp the centers of the bags with silver ink (those are our colors, hunter & silver). We thought this would make them even more personal. After the wedding we'll be able to use the stamp on our thank-you's, etc."

Danielle, Willmar, MN
I'm getting married in the fall, so my theme is autumn. We will be using pumpkins as our centerpieces. I'm going to simply tie raffia and thick, brown ribbon around the stalk and put the pumpkin on a platter of leaves painted gold. I will also scatter the gold painted leaves around the tables

We are going to use pumpkins, spray painted gold as our centerpieces

Colleen, Lancaster, PA
We are getting married on Halloween and we're using Jack-O-lanterns for our centerpieces. About 2 or 3 days before our wedding we are going to have the wedding party come over for a pumpkin carving party! Our reception is going to be a costume party so what a great finishing touch, and inexpensive too! With all the different people carving the pumpkins we are sure to have many different faces! Then just put a votive candle inside and wala, you are all set!

Cornucopia Table Decor:

You'll need:
1 24-inch wicker cornucopia
4-5 pieces of mini corn
4-5 acorns
Fall fruits and vegetables
Multi-colored leaves
Adhesive

Lay a bed inside the cornucopia with some of the leaves (you may use silk leaves if you plan to make the centerpieces ahead of time.) Fill the cornucopia with your fall goodies, and attach them with adhesive if necessary. Glue the remaining leaves onto the outside of your cornucopia, arranged esthetically. Note: if you can't find a wicker cornucopia, you may opt for a simple wicker basket for a similar look.

** Bowl of Goodies Decoration:

You'll need:
1 Ceramic or glass bowl (appr. 6-10 inches in diameter)
6-7 pieces of fall fruit (apples, pears, etc.)
1 fall garland
1 large pillar candle (autumn colors)
1 piece of floral foam
Adhesive

Place and secure the candle onto the center of the bowl (you may need to use a piece of floral foam to fill the bottom of the dish, as needed.) Arrange the fruits around the candle. You may choose to buy plastic fruits if you plan to make the centerpieces ahead of time. Finally, wrap the garland around the bowl, and secure with adhesive as desired.

** Filled Wreath Centerpiece:

You'll need:
1 large wreath (preferably natural)
2-3 acorns
2-3 small pumpkins
Various fall flowers (fresh or silk)
Adhesive

Arrange and secure the fall goodies onto the wreath as desired. If needed, use a glue gun to be sure the pieces will not fall off.

** Autumn Floating Candles:

You'll need:
1 large glass bowl
1 bag decorative stones or pebbles
2-3 floating candles in fall colors
1 plastic ring for floral wreaths (containing floral foam)--be sure the wreath fits the bottom of the bowl!
Fall silk flowers in a variety of colors

Arrange the flowers onto the wreath as desired. Take good care to secure each flower onto the floral foam to avoid gaps (use adhesive if you have to.) Place the pebbles at the bottom of your bowl. Fill the bowl halfway with water, then place the floating candles inside. Wrap the wreath around your bowl for a delightful centerpiece.

Go through some wedding magazines or visit some shows and get some ideas there.

If you go to department stores you can also get some ideas on center pieces.
