I started out on many of the floors with stripper, sandedn with floor sander, restained, and polyurethaned. They look gorgeous. I have gotten to my bedroom however to find that there is nothing that will penetrate to the wood there is some substance a creamy tan that covers these floors. At first I thought they were just bleached wood I was dealling with. After 2 months of fooling with it and scrubbing with vinegar water I have noticed its starting to come off like paint. I have since this discovery used paint stripper and its doesn't come of but in streaks. I have taken steel wool and scrubbed. This is taking forever and have wasted 1 month already on the floor of this remodel. What can I use to speed up the process?

We want to put an addition on our home - adding another story - we want to do much of the work ourselves but are curious how much we could be looking at for a basic 2nd story with no interior walls. We would probably want an area plumbed for a new bathroom in the new space, too. We can do interior walls, bathroom fixtures, flooring and most of the electrical ourselves. We would also need to run the forced air for our heater, and air conditioning, up to this new space. I'm looking for very rough numbers just so I have some idea of what we are looking out - $50,000 or $100,000 ? I really have no clue when it comes to construction costs. Is there a "typical" cost per square foot? We are in the Pittsburgh area if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Has anyone done this recently or knows a webpage that has this information? I mean one of the huge, open ones that you see in the driveways of people doing renovations. how much does it cost to get one in the first place, bring it to the house, then to have it emptied regullarly and taken away when your're done.

I am looking to paint the paneling in my house and I was told that it soaks up the paint quite a bit. Does anyone know the easiest and cheapest way to do this? I am on limited funds here. Thank you to all who give suggestions.

I am remodeling a kitchen and am struggling with the decision of gas versus electric cooktop. I like to cook but as a busy mom, I don't whip up too many gourmet meals. I know that electric smoothtops are easier to clean whereas gas has better heat control. Does anyone have any insight that might help me make my decision?

I am looking for a specific littler mermaid wedding cake topper...I saw in on the internet a few weeks ago, now I can't find it. It is a white porclain wedding cake topper that featured Ariel and Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid. I have found some other wedding cake toppers but I am looking specifically for this one. If anyone has seen it online or knows where to find it, I would really appreciate the info. Thanks.

This may seem a little odd but I've NEVER had a Christmas tree.

I live w/my boyfriend and this will be our first Christmas together and we want to get a tree. I'm clueless on what to buy though. I know ornaments and lights. But how many? Where's the best place to shop for this stuff? How much should I expect to spend (not counting the tree)?

Thanks! Im so excited about Christmas!

I am trying to come up with a homemade idea that is real simple for a headboard. I don't want to have to use special tools or buy too much for this...maybe just something with foam and material. Would that work? Other ideas?

Hi Please give ur help!!! I have a huge mirror, like 8 ft. tall and 2 ft. wide, I LOVE IT!!! i have it in my room, and the only problem is, i got it at a yard sale and it was once a door, so now, the way i have it leaned up against the wall, u can see both sides of it, and the sides are so ugly, since it was a door, u can see the whole sides (both) are wood, but on one side, u can see the hinges "marks" where they once were, and on the other side, u can see where the door handle was, i thought of putting wall paper, but then i thought that would look tacky, so i thought of some kind of cloth or material, but i dont know how to get it to stay, without using nails, or staples, which would also look tacky................................ANY SUGGESTIONS??? thanks=)

We've been in the same appartment for 6yrs and had 6yrs of plumbing problems and flooding. It's always in the same room, the kitchen. There's been the water heater, the leaky radiator, water seeping in thru' the walls (on 2 facades), twice water leaking thru' the ceiling (no one ever found the cause of that), the tap, the water pressure, the pipes, blocked pipes, leaky pipes, you name it we've had it! And each time something's repaired, something else goes a little while later. We decided to do up the kitchen a bit, put in new cupboards, a new dishwasher and new work tops, we even moved the cooker to a better place in the kitchen - Feng Shui wise. But paff, yet again a flood from upstairs, and 3 plumbers have not been able to find the cause!
I've read about how emotions can be a cause of water problems. Any tips on how to put an end to this once and for all? We live in an appartment block, ground floor. The kitchen is in the north-east corner, front door at the north.

we had a loft conversion , an architect working for a surveying company drew the plans (£500) -3 rooms including bathroom . The builder discovered plans were inacurate and an extra steel needed to be fitted. the architect admitted mistake and paid for it. when the bathroom was built it was much smaller than drawing, 160 cm at the highest point .A shower could not be fitted as the architect had drawn and the sink and toilet had to be moved . It is almost unusable as a room and Very unsatisfactory . Only by fitting a velux window (which gave a few more inches head room) can you even stand up in the room.If we had known the room would be like this we would have put in planning application for a dorma window .
The architects company have not replied to our letter of complaint asking for compensation . What is the best course of action to get compensation?
