I recently found a recipe for homemade air freshener that required simmering a pot on the stove with a solution of one part vinegar and two parts water with a teaspoon of whole cloves. I thought that the vinegar solution might remove scent molecules from the air or break them down, and wondered what the cloves would add, aside from scent.

Having tried it, I'd be inclined to weaken the vinegar solution. Also, I didn't enjoy the clove fragrance much.

Simmering acetic acid tends to be hard on the eyes and lungs, I suspect ...

I made the mistake of washing my navy polarfleece jacket with a white cotton throw. Now I have white fuzz all over it. The sticky roller thing I have barely gets rid of any of it. Any recommendations?

Every now and then when a buy a new shirt and wash it, it comes out with a colored stain on the shirt. Sometimes it's pink, orange, or even red, and I dont even own a pink or orange shirt! I don't know where these colors even come from, and it usually happens on shirts I havent washed before. I always wash in cold water, and use "Clorox 2 for colors" non chlorine bleach and "Woolite for darks". Can anybody please help me?

I just pulled the electric blanket out of the drawer for the winter, and it smells stale and has dog fur on it. The cord does detach from the blanket. Is it true you can't put an electric blanket in the washer? Or how do you clean it?

How do you clean a chandelier without removing it from the ceiling? Someone told me that you can spray something on it, and cover the candelier with a plastic bag. The dusk will cling to the spray, and all have to do it remove the plastic bag after an hour??

A mystery I've never been able to figure out is how trash collection works on holidays. Where I am, on holiday weeks, trash collection gets delayed a day. But this of course solves nothing. There is still the same amount of trash to collect, and the same employees (of someone, not necessarily the town) to pick it up, but one less day to do it.

I can only see a few possibilities:

1) They give them the holiday off but force them to do overtime on the other four days. Not really a holiday. They do get more money though.
2) They hire temporary workers to take up the slack. But would they do this for one week? And what about equipment -- there is no more equipment than there was before, and that would seem to be key.
3) Somehow they are 25% more efficient on holiday weeks. Unlikely! If they could be that efficient they'd want them to be so the whole year (but then you're back to the holiday problem).
3b) Some businesses agree to forgo holiday week collection.
