you are best to get the synthetic one as they are better to get clean they are also cheaper and you can change them from time to time but you can now get covers for them that will help your husband

A natural feather duvet feels much softer and nicer- The best is a goose down one. However, if you have an allergic tendencies with things like this as a lot of people do, steer clear and go for a good quality synthetic one.

Well, I have a down duvet. It is SO cozy & warm & fluffs up so beautifully with one 'snap' of the duvet. (Shake it out from the side of it.)

Every night, when I go to bed, I thank G-d for this down duvet. It feels like a cloud & is unbelievably light and comforting.

I keep mine covered at all times with a duvet cover. That can be washed easily in the washing machine. It is a bit of a pain to put it on, but only needs to be washed every two weeks or so. It protects the duvet ticking so that it won't rip, plus keeps your duvet clean as well.

However, if your husband is allergic to feathers, then that would be out.

I would suggest you consider the fact that dust mites are especially fond of natural materials and prefer man made fibers less.

Considering duvets do not get washed very often, this should ensure better hygene. Also, when washed, man made fibers dry much more easily and quickly than natural fillings.

A final thought: When I bought feather pillows, they did have a peculiar animal smell that lasted for the first week!

I would suggest going to Joh Lewis and looking in there. They have a single duvets of each type out so that you can feel them and assess the allergy thing too. I would really reccommend going there to decide.

Well now its winter, and very bitterly cold, long nights, etc, I think you should invest in a synthetic one (Im sure feathered one is just as good unless allergic) and make sure its a 12 tog, I think that is the one we have at home.

A feather one , you can get different togs, but the feather ones are the best that is why they are more expensive, they fold around you and it they can keep a duck warm in the artic then I would think they would do me

natural, much snugglier and softer. Fake ones tend to be like cardboard, all stiff and foam-like. Feather ones you can really curl up in. People can be allergic to both.

dunno which but make sure you get a 4 season one (two duvets that fasten together - one thick and one thin) as they are very handy for changing temperatures.
