Is one better than the other? What about in hard water?

I like powder for warm water wash and liquid for cold water wash. The powder doesn't rinse well in cold water.

I always use liquid detergent. I think that they both probably clean the same, but I have better results with the liquid form. For example, I have used powdered in the past and it has actually clumped and remained on the clothes after pulling them out of the wash. Liquid just blends right into the water without this problem. So, I vote for liquid.

I'm not sure which cleans the best. However, I use liquid. I use cold water for the laundry and powder detergent does not dissolve quickly in cold water.

Definitely the liquid, the powder will clump if not agitated well,I had hard water in one area that we lived, and sometimes the hard water itself would set the stains, I had to use BORAXO along with the liquid soap, to make the water a little softer and also help remove stains.

They will both clean about the same, but liquid is better in my opinion for several reasons.. No clumping, you can add clothing to the wash quicker without worrying about the powder dissolving, and it seems to just spread throughout the water much better.

I prefer liquid only because powder sometimes does not completely dissolve. As for hard water, your best bet is if you own your own home, get a water softener. Hard water over time will damage all your appliances that use water, not only taste bad and be less effective at washing clothes.
