My house, has 2 pvc pipes outisde, I was told one is for the A/C and another for the Release valve for the wather heater, however now on cold weather I do not have the A/C on (I do have the heating ON), I do have some trouble with my temperature release valve wich I have to change, so I close the pipe that feeds the water heater with cold water - however next day in the morining when going to work one of the pipes was releasing water, only thing I did was wash my hands and face in the bathroom, are these pipes also for another purpose? or some water was still running in the pipes from the previous day?

I've recently been using table salt on a window which has been covered in ants. This technique works and lately I haven't seen any ants around the window at all.

However, lately the windowsill has become very wet. It's been humid here lately and all I can think of is that the salt has absorbed the moisture in the air? Is this possible and would it cause the windowsill to become quite wet?

I have a really bright lamp with the light right on top of a standalone plastic fan. I think I left it on for a while last night. Today, I turned OFF the lamp and left for a while, came back, and found that there was a melted yellowish-orange depression that felt slightly warm.

So is this dangerous enough to throw it away?

I just started buying those spiral flourescent bulbs in my house. The bulb says it outputs the "equivalent" of a 60 watt incandescent for only 13 watts. I don't care what they say, it is not as bright as a 60 watt incandesent. can I put a higher watt fluorescent bulb in there. I was thinking of using the one that is 100 watt equivalent. I know that putting a 100 watt incandescent bulb in a 60 watt fixture is dangerous, but the 100 watt "equivalent" fluorescent only uses 26 watts. Should that be safe?

Okay, here's the deal. My computer is making my room very hot in temperature, and I don't know what to do about it. I can't turn the air conditioner on right now because it's already cold, and that will only make my room the right temperature, but it will make the rest of the house way too cold. The computer's fan releases hot air when the computer's on, causing the room to heat up. It's not a slight change in temperature, it's a huge change in temperature. The rest of the house can be 60° while my room is nearly at 95°. It's very annoying, does anyone know of anything I can do or buy that will solve my problem? Thanks in advance.

In my basement there is a fairly large room that all we have in there is a pool table,a small bar, and a poker table. I want to make this room into a hangout or a party room. Either just to watch some games down there, play some 360, or party. We are gonna put a 42 inch hi-def tv on the wall. One of my friends said that I can have his foosball table, and of course we will put some couches in there. What else can be put in this room to make it the "ultimate hangout" for me and my friends?

I'm considering getting a housekeeper when I move to Georgia. I'm a grad student and don't have the time to clean. I can't stand doing it, either. :) I know nothing of this process and would like some insight.

a) What is the approximate cost for cleaning an average 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house once a week? Do you pay by hour or per visit?

b) Do I need to supply him/her with cleaning supplies or do they bring their own?

c) Do housekeepers do all types of cleaning... not just surface cleaning? I figure surface clean the entire house plus one deep cleaning chore per week.

d) How much is appropriate to tip?

Anything else you could think of to tell me would be great. Thanks!

Hi I bought a pink paint for my bedroom that I thought would be more like a berry stain or strawberry icecream but now its bright, luminous almost neon pink. I dont have the receipt anymore but do you think I could take it back to the store and ask them to tint it a little more? Or is there a DIY tint kit I could buy to tone the color down a bit? I was hoping for something softer, grayer even.

About a month ago, my toilet stopped flushing completely. On occasion, if I held down the lever just right, I could get it go down, but more often than not, the toilet would only let some old water out and some new water in, without completely emptying the bowl.

A plunger did nothing. I couldn't find the problem when inspecting the tank, so I ended up replacing all the guts with new parts.

The only problem is that it didn't do the trick. The toilet is still acting up and only flushing on occasion. I just ran an 8 foot auger through the drain and still nothing.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? The fact that it flushes completely once and a while and partially ever other time leads me to believe it's not a clogged pipe, but with all pieces being brand new, I have no idea what else the problem could be.

Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

Finishing a full bathroom addition in my basement and have a pretty uneven concrete floor. I've heard some horror stories about using self leveling compound... and I'm worried that if I use it, I'm going to have problems at the doorway (entrance) to the bathroom. I'm worried that the bath entry will be built up too much above the carpeted hallway immediately outside.

Can I use thinset mortar to build up areas that need to be built up? Or will the thinset not be as durable as a self leveling compound?

I live in a condo complex with about 200+ units. They were built in 1997, so fairly new. I've recently changed out my water-heater so I know it's not that. But I've had this odor existing for about a year now and it started in my bathroom. Now I'm smelling it from the kitchen faucet as well.

My mother said something about the dishwasher needing to be ran as it may be the cause. So I started using it more frequently but still have this odor.

What should I do? (I live in Las Vegas by the way)

I hired a contractor recommended by Service Magic. He had a 5-star rating. Maybe these projects were different than mine, but I was dissatisfied with some areas of his work.

First, he assured me that he personally supervised each job. However, to my knowledge, he wasn't on the job site while the actual work was in progress.

Secondly, he insisted that I pay 50% up front and make checks out to him personally rather than to his business.

Thirdly, the boards his workers replaced on the porch floor were warped and unevenly cut.

Fourth, a wire fence between my yard and the neighbors was trashed. I only know it wasn't like that before they were there.

Fifth, he didn't leave me a copy of the contract. When I contacted the contractor by e-mail, he said he'd mail it to me, but I haven't received it yet.

Sixth - there are boot prints in white paint all over my newly painted dark gray porch floor.

I live in a basement apartment, which has very bad spider problems. I had my mattress stored in storage for quite some time and I noticed my daughter and I soon after becoming very itchy. So I got rid of the mattress cause I figured it may have been bed bugs...we're still very itchy..so heres what I think: it's either bed bugs (left over bed bug eggs), spiders, or the floor problem (humidity)..my pergo floor was completely soaked from a flood I had in the bathroom...what can this be???
