You most likely draw your water from an artesian well if you have an odor. The odor is caused by a non-toxic bacteria that originates in the water source itself. It is caused by natural sources. The water can be treated to kill the bacteria but will eventually re-occur.The reason that it seems to come from the water heater is that the bacteria thrives in standing water. You probably notice the odor more when you return from a few days away.checkout this web address to learn more.http://www.mrwa.com/watersmellrotteneggs.htm

1st determine if it both the HOT and COLD supplies. Water heaters contain a magnesium rod screwed into the top of the tank to retard corrosion. It is called a sacrificial anode meaning it deteriorates rather than the tank. This process can give of strong odors from the HOT supply depending on the water quality provided. Solution is to call a plumber to replace the anode or to unscrew it and pull the rod out of the top and replace with a metal plug. Do NOT use plastic or PVC. Probably smells worse in the bathroom because most of the water is exposed to the air in a confined room. Good Luck.

I have the brita pitcher because the tap attachment looks clunky and cumbersome for my sink area. the brita filters make the water scent and flavor sparkling, we've especially frustrating water around the following. as a sidenote, the Culligan pitcher filter out refills fit the brita pitcher, both use charcoal filtration, and they fee slightly a lot less to interchange. they say to regulate the filters each 6 to eight weeks yet i bypass 5 or 6 because i take advantage of a good number of water.

The smell could be coming from the magnesium filter in the ot water tank. If you can take it out, go ahead after relwasing the pressure, then put a pipe plug on. Of suffer wih it every time you use the water.

I believe you get your water from a reservoir and you are drinking Lake water in a sense. Check your local water dept. for places to have your water tested. Extension Offices often have sterile bottles and directions for water testing and don't cost anything more then Postage. and it is good to know what water you are testing, Also include a note of what you think about your water and send it with the sample.

Are you sure it is the water? Or could it be the drains? If the smell is from the drains your vents may be clogged or you may need to run some vinegar or bleach down the drains.

Please describe the odor - it may have more to do with the source than anything you've got going in your condo.
