I would do it in something neutral. I would paper the walls with blown vinyl or anaglypta but using a very plain pattern. I would paint the walls an 'off-white' colour. Dulux do a lovely 'cream white'. If you chose matt emulsion it gives a softer, cosier feeling to the walls. I would paint the woodwork in antique white which is again an off white but will be a tiny bit different from your walls so that the whole room isn't the same colour. Use a satin or silk finish on the woodwork as it is more hardwearing. You can then go to town on your soft furnishings. I did my bedroom a couple of months ago in the colours I've just mentioned. I then chose burgundy, chocolate brown and beige curtains in a horizontal stripe in a really rich chenille type material. The curtains go right down to the floor and infact are about 6 inches longer than required because if you have your curtains longer it gives a softer feel to the room again. I then chose a dark beige 100% burber carpet which was only £10.00 a sq meter. I then chose dark wood furniture to tie in the chocolate brown from the curtains. I then chose 3 lots of bed linen. I always use a burgundy valance sheet, then I have a plain cream egyptian cotton quilt set, and two quilt set that are mainly cream with a small burgundy and chocolate pattern.. I'm really pleased with it - I think it looks wonderful. It looks clean, fresh but cosy at the same time due to the warm colours along with the cream.
Good Luck and enjoy.

Start with the colour on your stairs/landing, and the carpet upstairs.?
What I would do is choose a colour that 'flows' from the landing area, into your bedroom.
For example, if the basic colour in your carpet up the stairs and landing is 'peach' then find a lighter or darker, shade, for the bedroom carpet, so it doesn't seperate one space from another.
Once this is done, go for a contrasting colour ( light beige for example) for the walls of your bedroom, either in paint or wallpaper (use a colour-chart, or even sample paint pots).
Over the bed, the main wall, use a 'deeper, richer colour, as this will be the main focus wall, keep the paint work white, this will keep in the 'light'.
You can 'accent' the room using ' another colours' ie browns' beiges' etc, in your throws, comforters, duvets, pillows, curtains, drapes, or blinds. Mirrors help 'expand' the space, and lighting is important, to set the 'mood' and help you create a relaxing atmosphere, (don't choose a 'high' wattage bulb).
Keep it simple, and not cluttered. Space savers, such as 'boxes, and plastic containers, are great, if you can put them under your bed, especially, for storing extra, pillows, bedding, or blankets.
And for safety, I'd have someone attach a small 'safe' on a supporting wall, in one of your cupboards, just for your valuable items and paperwork !.
Hope you've got someone to do all this for you !!
Hope this works .. now, can someone PLEASE stop me from watching ALL those home style programs.....
a friend..x (female and in my 50's too.. great age eh ?)
Enjoy your room and your christmas

If you want to start a woodworking project, you need all the necessary information, including schematics, blueprints, materials lists, dimensions etc. That is where Teds Woodworking comes in. The plans are clearly drawn and there're step-by-step explainations of how the plan should be done and put together. Go here https://tr.im/U7lsY
There are several other sites whose collection of plans have the dimensions totally wrong without any indication of parts lists, material lists or the tools needed. If you're one of those people who have bought plans like this in the past, Teds Woodworking will change your perception.

I'm in my 40s, and I redid our bedroom this summer. Walls and ceiling paint: Honeydew by Sherwin Williams (pale bright green, very cheery). Curtains: Pale blue. Carpet: Pale brown with a round rug on top with green and ivory and a little bit of red. Bedding: Brown down comforter with shams and throw pillows in the colors of the wall paint and the curtains. As an accent, I put a large blue and ivory vase with a bright, dark pink flower arrangement in it on the dresser. I kept the walls simple by hanging some of my vintage plates, a collage of my vintage brooches, and a picture of me and my husband. Peaceful, cheery, tasteful and perfect.
You can look at paint colors and design your own room online for free at sherwin-williams.com.

if your a light sleeper, try the lovely charcoal colours, that will darken the room, but add accesories to warm it up. if your a heavy sleeper then colour wont matter just go for ones you like. lemon, and baby pink are very calming, but avoid any blues or greens or other colours that make you feel cold.
The best nights sleep comes form having a nice warm colour that you like, rather than a cold unfeeling coulour thats supposedly 'fashion'. hope this helps.x.

what about duck egg blue and cream. If you're in the UK Laura Ashley do lots of wall papers, curtain fabrics, cushions, throws and bed linen in these colours. Its a classic yet contemporary look.

Peach and cream is a nice colour, peach walls, cream carpet and curtains. Or Coffee and cream is more popular, coffee walls and cream curtains and carpet, bedding will be easy to find.

Go into Glidden.com's website. They have a feature on there where you can paint any room with any color they have and see the room painted, it's excellent. I think it's glidden or one of the other main pain manufacturerers.
