About a month ago, my toilet stopped flushing completely. On occasion, if I held down the lever just right, I could get it go down, but more often than not, the toilet would only let some old water out and some new water in, without completely emptying the bowl.

A plunger did nothing. I couldn't find the problem when inspecting the tank, so I ended up replacing all the guts with new parts.

The only problem is that it didn't do the trick. The toilet is still acting up and only flushing on occasion. I just ran an 8 foot auger through the drain and still nothing.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? The fact that it flushes completely once and a while and partially ever other time leads me to believe it's not a clogged pipe, but with all pieces being brand new, I have no idea what else the problem could be.

Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

This exact thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. I had my manager come and fix it and he pulled out a watch from the toilet. Gotta love kids!

This is what I would first. Take you a small bucket and fill it with water and pour it in the toilet. If the toilet drains out the water properly and fast and the you have either got a bad flush master or the port holes underneath the toilet rim are clogged not allowing enough water to escape and flush the toilet.

If the port holes are clean and the flush master is fluent, then were going to have to check those pipes from the toilet drain..now here;s the thing. If you have a concrete slab underneath your toilet your in for some major work or get a longer snake unclog that main line. It could be root bound and this happens on several homes with older drain pipes installed underground where roots from trees find there way into the seal and then grow inside the line stopping the flow of water going out.

If you don;t have a concrete slab then your in luck. All you have to do is go underneath the house and pull the pipe loose from the main ingorund line and see it flushes clean out then and if it does you can run your snake from the inground pipe on thru.

There is some thing stuck in the pipe that the bit cant reach, possibly a small child's toy like a beanie baby (happened to me) You will need to pull up the toilet regardless inspect the opening from the other side then if you don't find some thing in the bend try running the snake through the pipe with out the toilet in place.

There is probably something stuck either further down the line or your vent stack may be partially plugged

The toilet itself is probably clogged - not the pipes.... shut the water off and pull the toilet.....

check the water level in the tank, is it 1 inch below the stand pipe , [round pipe in the middle of tank with a hole in the top]
if not then your water level is the cause,
