I have a new cement block house. I only want to insulate it from the OUTSIDE not the inside. Nothing I have found is good enough because either it requires re-caulking or could break or could mold, etc. I have decided that the only way to insulate it without maintenance is to build a cement wall to surround my house with an air pocket between the 2 walls as the insulation. The two walls cant mold or if they do it really does not matter or can be easily cured. My question is this......

What kind of R value do I get if my house is 8 inch cement block with......say..... a 4 or 6 inch air pocket with a 4 or 6 inch block wall as the outside? In other words, my 8 inch block wall would be surrounded by an air pocket held in by a second thinner block wall. HELP!

I am in college now, so I want something sophisticated. Right now my walls are lavender, and I hate it! I am fun, outgoing person and I like contrasting tones, but that always seems to clash with being sophisticated. My furniture is white, so basically i can do any colors so long as the walls are all the same color. I need a new bedspread and decorations, too. Any ideas on what to do?

I spilled a lot of water I mean gallons! on my carpet and I have been soaking it up and cleaning it up. I have most of it out but Im worried about mold buildup since I live in an apartment. In a month or so Im getting my carpet cleaned. Will I be fine? Or should I buy a carpet cleaner myself and suck up the rest of the water thats left. Thanks!

Our whirlpool washing machine starter latch snapped off and my husband can fix it; all he has to do is reattach the broken plastic part to the main part. What kind of glue (superglue, etc...) should he use?
The part itself costs about $30, glue is cheaper...for now...

There is a blood stain on my sheet and I washed it out with soap and water and then sprayed it with a stain remover, but I don't have a washing machine and the laundry mat doesn't open until tomorrow morning. Do you think it will come out once I wash it?

the main pipe to the well feeds into the holding tank. The flow is really slow, old timers have said they shoot a .22 bullett down the pipe.

I bought 12" x 12" ceramic tile from Lowe's branded as SURFACE SOURCE with a PEI rating 4. I bought each tile for $0.58 each. I want to use the tile for the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room and living room. The tile was made in Mexico. I think the tile was being discontinued at Lowe's. Thus, I think that is why the price was so low. Did I make a mistake? The tile looks good and feels good so I do not see a problem with. I need an honest opinion.

I would like to have a nice pot near my front door but the problem is that it doesn't get a lot of sun, if any at all. I could move the pot to be in the sun but it would get the afternoon sun but not for very long.

Can anybody help me with some Australian native plants for the Sydney area that will tolerate this?

I have heard that Correas like shade but have also read that they prefer full sun, so I'm confused.

I would like something flowering.

Thanks for your input.

I'm using 1/8 inch masonite panels to form a lighting valence. The masonite panels are over a frame of 1x2's. What should I use to fill in the joints between the panels?? Should I stay away from drywall compound? I'm afraid the drywall compound will crack due to flexing of the panels. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I had an inducer motor go bad and I called a repair man. He came out and told me that an inducer motor and the installation would cost me $800. He apologized and told me that it was because the replacement part was so expensive. Something didn't sound right to me so I told him I would think about it. He charged me $50 for the service call.

I bought the same part online for less than $80 and installed it myself in 15 minutes. I was happy that my furnance was fixed and that I didn't have to pay so much, but now I am angry that I paid $50 for the honor of them coming out and trying to rip me off. What should I do? Report them to Better Business Bureau? Do I have enough to charge them with fraud? Thanks!

i am finally finished with my heat system. it's a hot water solar collector, with a heat exchanger from the woodstove. it then travels thru the concreet slab for heat. the problem is that i'm getting mixed messages from people about what type of anti freeze to run in it. the solar pannels will be turned off at night and will get very cold. i was told that i need some special fluid for the system at $ 22.00 per gallon. i need 30 gallons! my origanal plan was to get some recycled anti freeze from a local auto salvage. any thoughts? thanks john
