the old light bar had an on/off switch, the new one does not, so it is always on. Is this dangerous?

Why on earth would you do that? That would be a complete waste of electricity and light bulbs. How do you plan on turning it off and on? I would highly recommend you buy one with a switch.

Just be sure to wear gloves when you unscrew the light bulbs to turn the dam thing off!
Come on - what kind of a question is this. Of course it's not dangerous - just incredibly wasteful! Put a switch on it - it's not that difficult.

Not dangerous at all. But not very efficient to leave the lights on 24/7. A switch installed by an electrician would pay for itself over time.

Not so much dangerous as it is expensive. Go to the Big Box Store and ask for pull chain switch. This only requires a small hole drilled into the metal box and a cotton pull chain to turn them off and on. I think they cost about $2.50 Simple to wire and doesn't look bad
