I would get a carpet cleaner and get as much water up as possible. I did this not too long ago. Make sure plenty of air stirring to help dry carpet completely dry or the carpet will mildew.

You said you have sopped most of it up, so that's good. Do yourself a favor: run out to a CVS or something, and buy several large containers of baby powder or talcum powder, and heap a considerable amount onto the carpet where you spilled the water. You want to not really be able to see the carpet through the powder. This will absorb all the residual moisture that's left in the carpet, as well as any underneath it. Leave it for 24 hours or so. Trust me - I've made this very same mistake before. You'll thank me tomorrow. :-)

Run to the store right now and at least rent a carpet cleaner. You don't even have to use the cleaning solution just the sucking mechanism. That is detrimental now as you won't know you have mols until it is too late. An alternative is to buy the steam cleaner machine or a high powered wet/dry shop vac.

You could do that, also put a fan on it to help it dry. You probably will not be fined. It is just water and it will dry especially if you rent a rug vac this week, not next month. I am sure you will be fine. Don't worry, it is better than wax, which is what I did once.
Don't Bleach it like they said, it will make it white!

Use a shop vac continuously..If you can lift it up without too much fuss, that would be great since you would be able to dry it from underneath...one other thing that most people don't think of..,,,If you have a dehumidifier, put it near the spill...it does wonders...just make sure you keep emtpying it..

Soak up with old towels, or dish rags (these can be washed after). Then get a desk fan and leave it on the area till dry.

If you have a fan, set it up to blow on the area for a day. That should help dry out the area. I wouldn't be too worried about it.
