I have noticed cracks in the upstairs walls a (most of them), and in the stairwell. These cracks are only at places where the ceiling meets the wall, or walls meet walls - nothing diagonal or random . It does not seem that there are cracks on our first level - but there is one in the stairwell. The one above the bed in my room definitely lets in a cold draft... Should I be concerned? Our house is about 3-4 years old, we bought it just a couple of months ago, and stupidly did not have a home inspection done. We live about 4 blocks from a smallish river, and the houses in our neighborhood get flooded basements when we have rain (we don't have a basement). Could the cracks be from bad drywall work, settling because of the damp area, or should I be much more worried than I am? Basically, do you think that it is mainly cosmetic, or do we have structural integrity problems?

Thanks!

When you see that it costs $100 a square foot to build a home (or however much it is in your area), does that include kitchen appliances like dishwasher, stove, etc. and bathroom fixtures like toilets, tubs, etc?

Irrespective of the amount of rinse cycles, there always seems to be some detergent film left on clothes, esp. black sweaters.

I was wanting to know if anyone out there has some great tips on reusing regular items in the house for things. I love it when I find double uses for things that I buy a lot or have around the house... for Ex: many of us use our plastic bags from the store for things. I use my store bought pizza boxes to cut my pizza on. I just break them down until they are flat and then use the to put the pizza on to cut and serve for an easy clean up. I use old wine bottles for decorating and I put the corks in a decrative bowl for a cool look on a table. Things like this. I would love to hear what you do as well.

I'm thinking about doing the color "Resonant Blue" or "Impromptu" and I'm going to have black curtains and black bed set and a medium-big bean bag. oh and beige carpet.
i don't want my room to be plain and boring so is there any simple ideas to do? but not to much detail cuz im still under age (obviously with my parents) so not a lot of detailed things.

We are going to be installing new central heat & air in this house ( just bought from Freddie Mac) As of right now there is a furnance in the house but it was never hooked up & has been vandalized so we have to buy an all new heating system. The house is 1500 square feet on the first floor & 1000 square feet on the 2nd floor. Other that the traditional gas furnaces what are my options??

Hi,

I will be working on my baby's nursery. I will be repainting the whole room and also want to add some butterfly sillhoutte designs on the walls. The room is green with the sillhouttes in darker green.

Option 1:
Should I paint first and then use a stencil over to paint the designs onto the wall? I would prefer to avoid this if possible.

Option 2:
Since it is a sillhoutte, can I paint a patch of the wall a darker green (for the butterflies) and then later once it is dry, place my butterfly design pattern (that is on paper/thin cardboard) on top of the painted area and then paint over with the lighter green that is to cover the whole wall? WIll that work? I am just afraid the colour may run?

Please help?
