my husband has on and off said that he wished he owned a soldering iron.
this year i want to surprise him by giving him one.. only problem is.. i have no idea what a soldering iron is.
and if i ask him, he'll know.
and if i ask at the store, the salesperson will do a job on me and have me spending way more then i need to.
sadly, this has happened to me on more then one occassion.

so..
here i am asking your advice.

what is a soldering iron?

he wants one just for around the house (not for frequent or heavy duty work) which brands do you recommend?

which brands to avoid?

thank you xx

I am taking delivery of new floorboards tomorrow to replace the tatty floorboards in my bedroom. I know you have to leave them for a period of time before nailing them down but I don't know how long.

I am just looking for some ideas. I have a fair size kitchen and at one end is a large pantry with an arch. Of course there are no doors on it, (removed by the previous owners). I keep a lot of junk and stuff in there but it looks unslightly. Can anyone think of what I could put on the archway to hide the mess, that doesn't look too tacky. ( I can't afford doors at the moment)

I'm doing an assignment on potted foliage and flower plants I can't seem to find the answer to, i need information on the following:
- select quality potted plants at the markets
- box/ package & transport the plans to the florist shop
- care for the plants until sold

I've got some books but the information is not what I am looking for..
do you know any good articles or websites would be helpful?

Thank you in advance.

This isn't color fading that you get from a shirt being old, and I only notice this with light color cotton t-shirts (light blue, tan, peach, light green) and this never happens with my dark color shirts or pants. At first I thought it was the shirt manufacturer's fault, but it is happening with a lot of different brands. There are light color spots (which seem like bleach spots) that appear on the shirts in big patches and I seem to notice it after I have washed the shirts, but I always use color safe bleach (if any). I make sure and wash like colors together, but if by any chance I happened to get some of the color to fade from one shirt onto another is there any way to restore my light color shirt back to the way it was? These aren't stains like blood, wine, or any kind of liquid stains, and I don't think they are sweat spots. They look like bleach spots or color fading spots. I know there are plenty of stain removers out there, but is there any kind of color restorer? Please help.

Floor seems to be about 1/2 to 3/4 inchs high on left side. Ceiling is higher on right side. Planning on just leveling the ceiling from the shelve sides and have shelf uprights support it, but need the floor base level to accomplish that.

We moved our clothes line on the weekend, it is a traditional hills hoist, the kind you see in most Australian backyards. We dug the hole, but when we sunk the post in it is not as deep as the hole it was in previously. It seems pretty sturdy, but the problem is that there is cement at the bottom of the post protruding above ground level, which looks kind of ugly. Any ideas for getting this off? We tried a sledge hammer but it seemed pretty stuck fast. Otherwise, is there a way to cover it?

It runs water and stops by itself. Sometimes it won't run water for hours and sometimes every 8 seconds (I've kept track of it) other times its like every minute. If I am lucky the toilet won't run water and I'll be able to take a normal shower.

I would like to change the ugly chandelier in the home I just moved in to, however, looking at it I am afraid to do so. There is this UN-COVERED wire hanging down in the chandlier change next to a covered wire. In the picture I saw while trying to figure out how to install a chandelier there was only one wire and it was covered. What is the thin uncovered wire then???? is it safe to touch it??? Pls help

The plastic UV filter on my desk lamp broke in half. Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement for it because you're not supposed to use the lamp without the filter or else it will emit UV rays. Plus...I don't want to buy a whole new lamp because the lamp still works fine.

Thanks.

Septic system bacteria, such as Rid-X, is very expensive to use on a regular basis, so I was wondering if I can produce my own to put in my septic tank. Anyone know?
