I have tried closing other dampers to other areas of the house, changing the filter, and even cleaning out the air ducts (professionally). I feel like I have to make the thermostat around 71 degrees to get the room to a temperature around 68 or so. It's our son's room, and he needs to be comfortable. Any suggestions?

I'am leaving for vacation for 2 weeks and I'am planning on turning off the water at the main shut-off to prevent any flooding accidents. I'am wondering if there is a proper way of turning off the water shutoff? Should I need to bleed the water out after turning off the valve(no worry about freezing pipes) or is it as simple as just turning it off at the main supply? Also will I need to turn the gas water heater off or just leave it alone? any responses appreciated.

i have to dogs. i want to plant grass in late spring 08. supposedly i can get free wood chips from the city. my backyard has no grass. when it rains, there's mud everywhere. i'm worried about the mushrooms the mulch will produce. will it harm my dogs if they eat it? also, will i have to remove the mulch before planting? i just want something that will keep the mud at bay. my dogs are inside/outside dogs.

Hello,

I am building a house that is 26' x 40' I would like to have a steel beam spanning the 40' length at the center of the 26' wall over the basement. Right now I have a choice if I want the beam flush with the perimeter sill plate, or lowered 1-1/2" and have a sill plate on top of the beam. There will be a support column at 15'-10" supporting the beam. The ends of the beam will be in pockets in a poured concrete wall.

The house will be a stick framed with no load bearing interior walls. The basement will be finished with drywall on the ceilings and the above floor will be 3/4" hardwood. The joists will be blocked and toe-nailed to the foundation wall sill plate.

I was wondering if you can tell me:

- What are the advantages and disadvantages resting the joists directly on the steel beam?
- If I do need a 2-by plate between the joists and the beam must it be pressure treated?
- What size beam and column I will need and how much should I expect to pay?

Thanks for your help!

I resently moved to Southern Georgia from Wisconsin. I want to plant flowers but am clueless as what to plant. I am only going to be living here for three years so i dont want anything expensive, but at the same time i dont want to replant moreflowers every year. What resonable priced perenials will grow in the sandy soil here? We have really tall pine trees here, I ws thinking of planting something around the base of the tree thats will climb the tree. I was wondering if a climbing rose could be planted there or if maybe i'll have better luck with a humming bird vine. Im also wondering what would work best around hedges to dress them up. The only thing i can think of that would grow well there is periwinkle since the soil is poor and rocky. I want to plant something arond the base of the bird feeder also. Something that attracts butterflys and humming birds. I was thinking butterfly bush but that grows too tall and wide. I need ideas on what to plant, and best time to plant. thanks

This is my friend's machine which is a little different than mine. It is in "like new" condition, clean, seemed oiled, but when I stepped on the foot pedal or hand-turned the wheel, it just won't go forward to sew. Any suggestions out there?

Have Kohler 1.6 gal flush toilet... but have to flush twice because the water pressure is so low that it won't flush right the first time.

I have other bathrooms with the same Kohler model in 3 other bathrooms and they work fine. Only one is not.

Hi, my boyfriend just bought me tulips for the first time, however I have never grown tulips before the directions say blooming Febuary-April Heigh 24in. spacing 6in. Depth 6in. but my question is right now were in November is it too soon to start planting and growing? In our back yard we have a fly infestation going on we have 2 dogs and we keep it very very clean however over the other side of our fence our next door neighbors also have two dogs and they dont clean up after them and they just pile a bunch of junck back there and i'm afraid the bugs will eat my tulips will any of this become a problem? or can I grow my tulips inside my house and I know they need sunlight can I grow them under a regular lamp in the light? Will that work? Thank you so much for your time and if theres anything else you can tell me about tulips it will be a big help.

Ok - so it is the middle of Nov. and I opened the windows in the Master bedroom. Ladybugs were coming in. I went and looked outside and the whole side of the house was covered with them. The temp has been between 75-80 this week. I didn't know that ladybugs were out in November.

First question : What are they doing? Second: Why are some red, orange and yellow and why do some have spots and some don't? Third: How come when you pick them up they smell like peanutbutter?
