Ask the police to go through your house and suggest security precautions. Your insurance company may also do the same thing for you. Also, a lot of burglars wait until you replace everything with insurance money and rob you of the new stuff, so continue to be cautious. You need to learn about security so you can protect yourself. You can get a dog, or get a device that sounds like you have a dog: burglars are scared of dogs. You can plant bushes around your home that make it more difficult for a burglar to get in, like cactus. You can get an alarm system. The more you do to protect yourself, the more you will feel in charge and therefore less paranoid. Also, I found self-defense classes to be very helpful, too, as they teach you how to avoid crime when you're away from home as well as at home.

It is a hard to be comfortable in your home right away when your private space has been invaded like that. Just take as many precautions as you can to make sure it doesn't happen again. I would set little booby traps by all of the doors and windows so that you would hear something if someone tried to open one. I lean things carefully against the door or on the door handle so that if the door moves it will fall and either scare off whoever was trying to get in or wake me up. Keep all of your outside lights on after dark and whatever else you can afford to do.
Good luck

the burglars will also suffer from a trauma too.
they are scared of you, as well as you of them, but they much worse.
they are human, as well as you, and you can make them suffer and beat them up if you want to. you choose not to but you can.
you have more control over your enviorment then them, obviously.
remember they don't knw ur place, they've only been once, that is not enough.
you can do real harm to them. remember that.
lock everything up, and feel secure because they are scared as hell.
If you want to, have something that can inflict pain near you. have absolutely no doubt that what u have will inflict pain. might be a pen, or a fork, but that inflicts alot of pain.
be responisble, though. u can most likely kill a human being if you wanted to.
fear no man but GOD. for any man is equal to you, and inside your home a lot less then you might imagine.
If anyone gets inside again, know that they are scared sh***less of you. they would like to break in when you are not there.

Get a gun and learn how to use it from a professional. You'll feel much more in control of things. Just remember; only shoot if your life is in peril. If someone breaks in your house and is just taking stuff; Let them take then, call police. NEVER shoot anyone unless it is clear-cut self defense!!

can understand you feeling that way. things to do/consider if not already in place are, install dead bolts on your doors. install window locks, install motion detectors on some lights outside your house, have a close friend or relative stay with you for a while if necessary, if you can afford it, or if it will make you feel more comfortable, have an alarm system installed,
