We are going to be installing new central heat & air in this house ( just bought from Freddie Mac) As of right now there is a furnance in the house but it was never hooked up & has been vandalized so we have to buy an all new heating system. The house is 1500 square feet on the first floor & 1000 square feet on the 2nd floor. Other that the traditional gas furnaces what are my options??

It all depends on where you live. If you live in a temperate climate, where lows rarely reach below 30 degrees F, then I would recommend a forced-warm air system using a Heat Pump. If you live in a colder climate, you might want to consider radiant heating or electric resistance heating. Both of these systems are typically installed in the floors but can also be put in walls and ceilings. Obviously, this would require a little bit of remodeling of your house to accomplish.

Heat pump - which heats and cools.

Gas furnace is probably your best option considering the cost of fuel. It can also be integrated with the air conditioning unit to provide a nice clean installation.

Lots of THICK sweaters and socks. Blankets work well too. Plus your heating bill should be next to nothing:)
