take four 2x4's cut one end of each at a 45 degree angle attach the four boards to one 2x4 so it looks like the ones in the stores. or you can go to the store and buy brackets so all you have to do is put the boards in the brackets and it makes a saw horse.

I have to agree with answers 1 through 3, so far.

I have used the metal/ folding brackets, but don't care for them. I want horses that fold however; if for no other reasons than storage and FIT when I transport to a job site.

With no real offense to answer one, who offers a valid suggestion in the use of lumber; I suspect a 45 is a bit much for the span, at the bottom of the legs; but that's just my opinion.

For the price of several 2x4s you can but a pair at a home center for under 20 dollars.They will be lighter and fold up for storage.

I have built several, was given a gift of two fold up type metal sawhorses. I no longer use the ones I built, with adjustable legs and the ability to fold them up for storage, they are ideal.

the hard plastic type at lowes or home depot will work better for you and with the high prices of lumber these days you could save money. they fold up for easy storage too
