i am scrubbing off over 20 years of suit off of the inside of my fireplace (which is made out of brick)... it is absolutely black!!!!!!!

i have tried simple green, clorox spray, windex and hot water with dish soap, and it's coming off a little bit, but it's still very black!!

i am going to be painting my living room (including the outside of the fireplace (which is brick which has been painted white by the previous owners of the house).. but i want the inside to at least look like brick before i paint!!

any ideas??

Our winters are usually pretty mild. We usually don't get a week's worth of weather under 30 degrees Fahrenheit. The garden is in full sun. There's lots of humidity and a decent amount of rainfall. My dad doesn't want to plant more than five or six types of plants. We're planning on a garden probably about 20X30. Any suggestions? Thanks!

My dad put a bug bomb in the pantry and we totally forgot about sealing and closing some of the chip, cracker, cookie, etc. bags. So I was wondering, do any of you know for sure if the bug bomb ruined the food?!?!?! Thanks =]

im going to be a teachers assistant for my orchestra teacher, and she has, organizational issues, her desk is often covered in music, broken strings, rosin, and other miscellaneous items, her counter is often covered in books, binders, and students instrument cases, she has two violins that are hers, that she uses to teach, and they are usually spread out thru out the classroom.

i need to know a good (free) and effective way to organize her "areas" so she can find things, but keeping it clean and organized.

TIPS/IDEAS?

thanks. i want to be the best T.A. i can be.

Ok our ceilings are vaulted & look the same throught the whole upper level. The bead board is pine & is nautral (unfinished), the cabinets are maple. as you can see the beams are pretty dark, which looks nice. so with the cabinets & ceiling being light, we arent sure on how dark the hardwood floor should be. i like one a little darker that also has lighter pieces. but should we stay light?

Also our counter is very colorful yet nuetural at the same time. alot of greens, browns & tans even an almost pink or salmon color. its granite & very unique. But it could match with pretty much any wood.

Any help is appreciated! I have below links for pictures of the counter, cabinets & ceiling.

I live in Ct., and have a huge backyard, (5 acres). I want to plant pine trees/xmas trees, just to make it look nice. I seem to recall the State of Ct. selling seedlings, for almost nothing. But, I cannot recall who/what/where. I can't find it on the net. Anybody have any ideas? Regards, Bob

I'm trying to think of a good accent color that goes with red. Our family room has cappacino-colored walls with ultra-white baseboards, light brown tile and tan carpet. I want to jazz up the neutral colors with something edgy, yet classy. How does purple and red look together? Maybe purple and red throw pillows, fake purple and red flowers in silver vases and a red rug will go..I'm new to the decorating scene so please let me know if this sounds OK!

I don't want a wall mount. My cubicle is sturdy enough to handle a white board. Ideally, I'd like to buy it at Staples, but I didn't find anything on their website.

I have some jeans(98% cotton, 2% spandex) that are kinda baggy, so I was wondering what I could do in terms of washing and drying to shrink them a little.
