Any web resources for designing and building a wheeled box on twin rails which is supposed to take small weights(groceries) up a 20 degree hill? I imagine it being operated by a winch located at the top of the hill (about 50m away from base). We are building a house on a hill and this would be a good way of not having to carry stuff up the stairs. Any ideas, plans or experiences highly appreciated!

I'm very new to gardening and I've finally decided to tackle my back garden which is reminiscent of a jungle. I've got these monstrous weeds in the only soil patch in the garden which I intend to eradicate by smothering them with an old carpet, and I've also got these weeds like dandelion, poppy and nettle. These are dotted here and there in the garden and so I can't reasonably smother them. I want to use a weed killer but aren't they harmful to the environment? Is there an alternative?

The leaves on my capsicums are curled in from the edges but not discoloured or spotty. The leaves have rolled inwards to form a tube like shape and seem to be well otherwise. can anyone suggest what this would be and how I can fix this. Thank you.

I have a dear friend that doesn't have much money so I wanted to ask this question before they put this in.

They were given a fireplace insert. He has cut a hole in there livingroom and is going to frame it with "cement board" and then run triple stove pipe up from there.

Is it possible to do this? should he do more than that for the insert.

I'd hate to see them create a problem while trying to stay warm this winter.

Can 1/2hp garage door openers open a 2 car garage door without spring? One side of the wire on my garage door broke, right now the door is crooked. If I cut the remain wire, the door will not be sprung, will the garage door opener still have enough power to open it? This is just temp solution until I can get it fixed, but I need to know before I cut. Thanks.

I accidently polished my wood table with pledge. Problem is, I forgot that the cleaning instructions said not to use furniture polish. Now there are streaks on the table from where I wiped it down. Any advice on how I can fix this? Or how I can buff out the streaks?

Thanks a bunch!

My roommate didn't want me to use of the burners on our electric oven range. I suspect he has done something (of course, he is trying to act innocent now) and as a result, only that burner suddenly stopped working. That is, it is not heating up at all when I turn it on. The other three burners work fine. What could he have possibly done and how can I fix it? Answers with a little bit of illustration will greatly help. Thanks much.

I've planted both mums and pansies this past week - how long do they typically survive into the fall in the midwest? Do pansies fill in very well? They seem a sparser flower. Also, I planted them in partial sun before realizing that they need full sun (didn't have one of those stick thingies in the ones I bought). Will they survive? Should I move them?

Thanks in advance for your patience, I'm a bit of a bumbling idiot when it comes to this stuff.

Bear with me, I'm an amateur gardener: when planting bulbs in the fall, how often do you have to water them? I followed the planting guide for what month to plant and how deep in the soil, etc, and it said to water them after planting. Only immediately after planting, or as often as I water my other flowers?

My front porch railings haven't been painted in a few years. Now the white paint is chipped and looks terrible. It is made of wood and has the old-timey looking spindles, etc. Can someone tell me the proper steps to prepare it for painting so that when I paint, it will be easier and not such a hard job? Also, do you recommend using a primer so that the next paint job will last longer?

I have a Liz Claiborne comforter, it's white and 100% cotton with 100% polyester filling. I'm at college, and my mom sent me back with some pasta and meatballs with sauce in a little container. When I came back from home last night, I was rushing to get to the library and apparently left the tupperware container on my bed (forgot to put it in the fridge), and somehow some of the sauce leaked out and stained my comforter.

What are the best ways to clean up this mess???

Thanks in advance!
