I would like to replace the glass with something else maybe like tile or something other than glass. Is there a way to do this and how can I start? I have no ideas how to begin.

The first step should probably be to take the glass measurements and shop; comparing those sizes to sizes of tile. Without any idea of the "SOMETHING else" that would pretty much be up to you, and if you wanted some wood inlay panels etc. you might have to cut them yourself or have them fabricated.

With tile, there may or may not be an issue, not only in length and width, but thickness as well? You don't state that detail about the glass inserts. If they are the thickness of a usual glass table top that might equate to 3/8 inch? or more like window pane. In that case a piece of tile might either be above; or below the table top surface?

Also if you plan a piece of tile you should probably realize that it isn't much stronger than glass (which it is essentially) and might want to drop in a piece of Luan cut to size, then the tile.

It might be that you'll have to remove (if possible) the RIM that holds the glass from falling to the floor/ OR modifying it in some way to accomodate whatever you choose as an insert.

First step however is define the replacement, and measure the glass of take it with you on a shopping expedition.

If the glass is round, then U could replace it by a perfectly cut marble top or a contrast colored wood piece.

A square or rectangular space may be filled with glazed tiles to make a design
