Ok our ceilings are vaulted & look the same throught the whole upper level. The bead board is pine & is nautral (unfinished), the cabinets are maple. as you can see the beams are pretty dark, which looks nice. so with the cabinets & ceiling being light, we arent sure on how dark the hardwood floor should be. i like one a little darker that also has lighter pieces. but should we stay light?

Also our counter is very colorful yet nuetural at the same time. alot of greens, browns & tans even an almost pink or salmon color. its granite & very unique. But it could match with pretty much any wood.

Any help is appreciated! I have below links for pictures of the counter, cabinets & ceiling.

I feel that if you continue with a lighter color there will be to much. I would go with a nice dark cherry color like your beams this will allow a little bit of color and will stand out instead of blend in. I think it would look real nice.

Being that the beams are dark and the counter is dark. and the cabinets and ceiling are light. I would say that you have enough contrast that I would not go dark. The darkest that I might go would be a red oak stain towards lighter to maybe a golden oak stain. You might try something in a fruitwood stain as well. If you have some scraps left from the floor you may want to try different stains on the scrap let dry and place on the floor to give you a better idea. I would stay between medium to light in color. In fact I would apply a light coat of the red oak stain as it will get dark applied heavy. Just wipe the red oak on this will be lighter adding a warm red tint yet allowing the grain to be enhanced.

Since the countertops are fairly dark and the beams are dark, that's probably as much really dark as you should have. Otherwise it might make the room look small and depressing.

I would go with a red oak floor (it's not really red in color - that's just what they call it) with a light chestnut and golden oak mix stain. This gives a warm golden brown that isn't as dark as a cherry or mahogany. But, you can try different blends of the stain on a test piece of wood to see what the color is going to look like. You then add more pigment or dilute it more to get to a color you like.

Take it from a gay guy with superb taste: if you go with a wood color, be sure it is a very light colored wood. If by "bone white" you mean ivory, or some shade of warm off-white, that is the way to go. The floors can be any color - don't go with a wood that's too dark. If you want a couple of accessories to go with your chocolate brown/ivory white color scheme, a color that really goes well is a very bright orangey red or 'fire-engine red'. Maybe a red area rug.

I like the dark like your beams. I think that would look good. I think the contrast of colors with your cabinets would look good also.

you should go with something the same, or close to the color of the beams.

I would go with a darker color. it'll help pull the whole room together.
