I'm trying to think of a good accent color that goes with red. Our family room has cappacino-colored walls with ultra-white baseboards, light brown tile and tan carpet. I want to jazz up the neutral colors with something edgy, yet classy. How does purple and red look together? Maybe purple and red throw pillows, fake purple and red flowers in silver vases and a red rug will go..I'm new to the decorating scene so please let me know if this sounds OK!

No!! Back away from the purple!! With the color scheme you wrote about, I'd go for either chocolate brown or olive green accents. And as for fake flowers, they can make a place look cheap unless you get really nice silk ones.

Will work if you are careful.
Be sure to buy ALL the reds you will use and ALL the purple you will use, as both colors are difficult to match [ look at all the shades in the crayon box! ]
Add your metal [ brass or chrome ] in picture frames, candle holders, perhaps a mirror.
Get silk or fabric flowers if fake - they look better, and last a long time!
Add ornaments in the red, purple, and metal for mantel or table tops.

Red and purple is one of my favorite color put-togethers. Its not for everyone, but I love it
If youre feeling extra bold, try tossing orange at that combination for an added punch!

PURPLES MY FAVORIET COLOR BUT SOOO DOES NOT GO WITH RED U SHOULD DO RED N LIGHT PINK...
I THINK IT WOULD LOOK GEWD WITH THE OTHER COLORS IN UR ROOM ALREADY BUT DEFINATLY GO WITH PINK!
