The beauty of laying sod instead of spreading grass seed is that, after about a week or two, you can start treating it like an established lawn (a seeded lawn cannot be mowed for at least a month or so).

If the lawn needs to be mowed, mow it now. It will actually help the lawn to grow stronger. Make sure you're watering enough, though. You should be watering two or three times a week for about 20 minutes at a time right now. Beginning in October, assuming it doesn't rain, your goal will be to water about once a week for about an hour. This will promote deep root growth and give you the best chance at having your lawn come back healthy and strong next spring. Once it starts dying off from the cold, stop watering it.

Check for white feeder roots under the sod, by rolling the sod up ( not much just a corner) if you can see several of these feeder roots and its a little difficult to roll up then it should be fine to mow.

Note: in places when little pieces were used I would skip them until they are difficult to pull up.

To have a nice yard use a pre-emergent herbicide to stop the winter weeds, also reapply in the spring to stop the summer weeds.

Pull up on the sod to see if it's rooting into the ground well--if not let it sit another week. If it's gripping pretty good, mow it now but don't mow more than a third of the height of the grass blades off at one time--I.E. if the grass is 3 inches tall, set your mower to mow at 2 inches height. Better to let it grow and root well than take a chance on gouging it up.

It seems to me that if its growing nicely that it has taken root. So you could probably cut it, but not as short as usual. Cut it only a little at a time so that may mean more often as long as its still growing long. Beware cutting any grass too short!

ususally , new sod needs watered frequently. if there are soggy spots from this, dont do it. if it is firm underneath, you can mow it now. it doesnt hurt to do it sooner, but it will rut it up if it is still muddy underneath
