A stranger rang our door bell this evening and asked if he could rent our 2 car garage. We only have a small amount of furniture in there so we could possibly do this. How much should we charge? He said he has 2 classic cars that he would like to put in our gartage. Do we need special insurance for other people's property on our premises? Should we make up a lease? Does this person sound legitimate?

Despite professional lawncare and irrigation- my NJ lawn has gone somewhat brownish till fall. Has anyone tried lawn dye products? My golf course suggested it- as they claim to use it with positive results. (I can't tell where they used it even after they pointed it out to me). Of course my yard is a bit smaller than the course.

The patio will be stone and it will be a relatively small one. If you include the cost of flower landscaping...is 16,500 dollars too much?

caretaker? landlord?

your tiny plot serves you well. it's within arm's reach, gives the dog a place to go instead of inside, and that nice picket fence keeps the neighbor's kids from stealing your newspaper.

steward? cultivator?

that rainwater garden you constructed helps you keep your water use to a minimum, and those rall native trees keep your yard nice and cool in july. you can't wait until the strawberries get ripe, and delight in the bluejays that have shared their home with you. and the chipmunks. and the toads.

manager? adversary?

the frost heaves from last winter have thrust their fingers through your beautiful asphalt deck. those cracks are too big to be sealed properly, but if you tear it out and replace it with concrete, now that should be permanent. if you can only remember to take down that maple out back that blocks the view.

how would you describe your relationship with your immediate surroundings? details: what works? what doesn't? do you know why?

Water comes out simultaneously until you pull up the shower pin. The plumber has just left the house and said I should call the Delta help line. Delta help line said it's an install issue. Apparently, my plumber didn't know what he was doing. I have really nice tile on the shower wall and on the other side of the wall I have a shallow wall with a small access door. I also have 2 tenants moving in Wednesday evening. What should I do? I think I'm going to forget using the other plumber. What do I do to move on now, in the most cost effective way to get this problem fixed.

I will use stain plus either water-based or oil-based polyurethane. Which one is easier to apply to get an even result all over the floor? I don't mind the smell of the oil based one. However, I am a little concerned because I want to change the color of the floors substantially and don't know which type of stain/polyurethane combination is best. I would appreciate any comments in choosing the option that'll give me the best results. Thanks.

Today, a large pickup truck pulls up in my backyard and five Mexicans jump out of the truck with machetes and tank sprayers. I go outside and ask, “What’s up”. They just look at me, and one of them says something in Spanish.

Well there’s a Wisteria vine on my power pole, which I had planted a few years ago and an Elm tree nearby. This guy starts to whack on the vine with a machete, and another heads for my Elm tree and I yell at them. Then a sixth guy comes out of the drivers seat, says something and the whacking stops.

The driver walks over to me and he could barely speak any English. But he said he was working for the power company and he’s supposed to cut everything you know?

I said “ No, I don’t know, where’s your papers?” He says he doesn’t know. So’ I told him to get the hell off my property.

Later on, different truck pulls up and at least this Mexican can speak some decent English. He say’s, their supposed to trim the trees and brush along the power line. There are no markings on any of these vehicles and he doesn’t have any work orders either.

So, I tell him to shove off, he says I got to let him do it. I tell him call the cops, as he doesn’t have any work orders. Well, he left and it’s been 4 hours, no cops and no paper work.

Would you have done the same thing?

We have a large capacity washer where I work. (Speed Queen) When it was on the spin cycle this weekend the sheets exploded through the glass. It completely shattered and scattered the viewing window. It blew screws out of the front panel and into the wall. Has anyone ever heard of this happening before? Does anyone have any theories as to how this occurred? Should Ralph Nader write a new book..."Unsafe on Any Cycle."

Thanks in advance.
