Lisa;
I suggest that you go into one of the home centers like Lowe's or Home Depot and review the individual paint manufactures brochures showing homes with various color schemes.
I want to give you some advice on brands of paint and costs relative to the product and labor.
Home Depots Behr Brand is expensive and has very poor coverage. Yes, it's color is incredibly true and clean, but that only comes into play if your a decorator and want to match a fabrics color perfectly. If you use it, plan on 3 to 5 coats to get it even especially with the Pure White. Their Evermore line by Glidden is excellent both in color and coverage and I prefer it when choosing paint at this particular store.
The best of the best in the home improvement centers is at Lowe's and known as American Tradition which is made by Valspar. I think this particular paint is the best out there for the money in color clarity and coverages.
Without going through every manufacturer product line(s) I will leave off with the big secret. Wal-Mart's Color Place Paints are made for them by Sherwin-Williams and it's S&W's best paint in those cans. The best part of this FYI is that you'll pay half the price at Wal-Mart for the same exact paint that you'll pay for in the Sherwin-Williams store.
Best Regards,
Mike Lonergan

Front door gloss black and add a brass kickplate and that makes your front door special unless it is stained and wooden, Do two distinct colors but have them compliment each other, such as dark gray trim with light gray main portion. Or a light color for the main body and a dark color for trim, Stick to earth tones and fairly neutral colors, Bright is not a good way to go, Think subtle colors and if you go to a real paint store they should have a color computer that you can look at that will show you a photo of a house with the colors you pick. I'm not talking big chain discount houses but real paint stores, they can help you decide, trust them, they look at color all day long,.
Big tip - buy really good paint and only have to paint one coat and that is much better than cheap paint and two coats.

Ask about who is the best painter in town (drive by houses in the better neighborhoods and see who they are hiring because you know they won't necessarily choose the cheapest painters).
Then call the painter and tell him you are thinking of having your house painted. As him to drive by your house and look at it (make sure he has the correct address!). Ask him what shade he would paint the exterior and the trim. Then see what he says.
I had a great idea about what color to paint our house because I saw another house painted the same color. I asked a good painter to look at the other house and give me his opinion for the same shade on our house. He didn't think it would be a good match and he told me why. With all his experience, he suggested a combination of color and I went with his suggestion. It was absolutely the best. It fit with the style of the house, the orientation of the house to the sun in all the seasons, etc. He has so much experience with painting houses, his opinion was really valuable!
The painter might be asked to be paid for his opinion. It's worth it to pay him. I was hiring this painter so it was just a free opinion coming from him.

I am halfway finished painting my house. I used Valspar Paint from Lowes. You can get a pamplet with many good color combinations on it. I used Mica (light blue) and Blue Steel. There are also a lot of good rustic/ colonial color schemes out there if you look around your neighborhood. The pamplet will help a lot.

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/ManualOfWoodworking
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.
