I had a infestation of small flies in my apartment recently. The flies had clear wings and could not fly very well but seemed to be in groups. They seem to stay in groups..they came in through my window sill, I used Raid to get the flies to die...but what are they and where are they coming from and what can I do to keep them out? I live in Central Florida....

I prefer to use wall lights only at my business to save electricity bill. There are couple switches that control different sections of wall lights. And, each section of wall lights also connects to a couple ceiling lights (fluorescent lights).

If i take out these fluorescent lights, is there any thing potentially bad when i turn on those switches? Will it be bad for the ballasts of those fluorescent lights ?

I have an old swiffer wet jet, it came in a green box and i got it about 2 years ago, recently they have introduced a new one in a purple box. the problem is, the swiffer pads are fastened by velcro, the old one (the one i have) has one strip of velcro in the middle, the new one, has velcro strips on the top and bottom, making it impossible to use the new pads with the old swiffer wet jet. has anyone had this problem? what do i do? mine works fine so i dont want to pay 20 for a new one!

I've noticed the past couple of days a small puddle of water in my utility room, and I think it is coming from the hot water heater. It has done this before but it is not constant. Is this normal? Should I worry?

I just went on JC Penneys, Lowes, and Home Depot, and only found 2-3 different kinds of vertical blinds. I really wanted colored ones and I am only seeing huge ones for doors.

Last night while attempting to plug in a TV set, I noticed blue sparks when the plug made initial contact with the outlet. I considered the possibility that I was carrying an electrical charge (like shoes on carpet type of thing) but if the outlet is properly grounded, would that really matter? I live in an apartment of a very old house, approx 110 years old. I chose to leave the TV unplugged. Advice?

Or can I just tile around it? If not, will the toilet fit back on the floor with the added width of the tile. Or will I need to adjust something on the toilet.

My boyfriend son is moving in with us. We want to change our dining room into a bed room. I don't want it to be permenent, because if we sell the house. Our kitchen is ok in size, but, a family could use the extra space for entertaining. I thought of french doors that lead into the living room. We have a 12 feet opening into the living room. I don't want a wall. maybe partialy bring the walls into a 6 foot or 8 foot opening. What can we do to close this, yet, leave it with a dining room posibility for future owners? The opening into the kitchen is door size. We can put a door up, or something that can be removed later.

Any sugestions. We want to do this as cheap as possible. We are hopefuly moving in the next year.

I have a sump pump in my basement.....it has NEVER ran before. It has never had any water in the well either. I have NEVER noticed anything in it until now. I have had the house for 3 years and this is the first time that the well has been filling up via the ceramic pipe on the side. The sump pump kicks on when it reaches the appropriate water height, drains the well until there is about 4" of water, then turns off. I look outside and I notice the water coming out which is good. This has been going on for about 24 hours now, every 8-10 minutes. I am in the northern Illinois area. We are currently in out "thaw" stage and we just got about 2" of rain 2 days ago. The rivers and creeks are really high. Any ideas as to why this may have all of a sudden started happening? We have had harder rains before and my sump has never done this before even when the creeks and rivers were higher than they are now. Is it a high water table? I am kind of concerned.
