Bifenthrin is the chemical that Scotts used to replace Diazinon when it was banned. It controls most of the same types of insects and all the tests have shown it is much safer than diazinon. By the way Shar, Sevin is very poisonous to bees also.

Effectiveness will depend on the type of bugs you are trying to kill. Safety is dependent on your following the instructions. I like Sevin for most general pest control needs but remember to change the chemical every so often to avoid resistance.

A good web page to visit for information is www.e-bug.com

I refuse to use diazinon as it also kills bees which are essential to flowers and fruit trees. I simply use 10% Sevin dust.

I love Sevin dust, but you have to reapply often. Sevin dust works well with earwigs, which is my big garden pest.

If you have slugs, diatrometrus earth (spelled horribly wrong) is effective. You can also put a pie pan of beer out for the slugs and they will drown in it.
