I am looking for a collar that will fit on an old powerpatic drill press with a 3 inch column. The collar cracked and I need to replace it? Also, suggestions on removing the old collar?

I want to create a snow / ice melting cord like the ones you buy for your roof. Is this something that can be safely done by a reasonably handy do-it-youselfer? I am interested in creating a DIY Snow Melting cable, not a DIY self-electrocuter.

It would not be used in a fixed location (ie, no plans to attach to roof) and it is not going to be buried in concrete. And ideas welcomed.

We don't use a city water system, we have a well for our water supply and this has just started happening in the past week or so. The water is "chuffing" although it's not coming out in spurts, it's still a steady stream. It just sounds like there is air in the pipes. Should I be worried?

I am needing to buy new khaki pants, but I don't want to buy "wrinkle free" pants because they always feel stiff and not as comfortable as the ones I currently have (Polo chinos). The problem is that they always become wrinkled all but immediately after sitting down.

Would starching them help reduce the wrinkles, or am I just going to have to buy "wrinkle free" khakis?

I live in a apt. complex which they converted into condos. The people upstairs have hard wood flooring, which is fine, but it is making my house extremely loud now. I think they are doing normal everyday type things but where I am sitting it sounds so ridiciously loud. Whenever they drop something on their floor or have their kid running around,it sounds like a circus sideshow over my head everyday. I know it is during the day but no normal person can even enjoy their house.
my question is this, is there a way for a private contracter to come in & cut out a hole in my roof so I can blow insulation in there? I have already contacted the property manager I am just waiting for a responsive e-mail. I thought I would ask around just for curiousty.

Any feedback would be great & thanks.

The house was built in 1965 and I had it inspected and the structure was fine. What could be the problem? I did find bricks in the toilet bowl. I asked of the longstanding neighbor about this and she said the brick was to conserve water by the first owners
(I'm the fourth) but the toilet water ran slowly and now water is coming up from both bathroom tubs and laundry drainers. In essense I have two problems. I read answers on ASK about stubborn toilet clogs and learned about using a toilet auger. I am waitng for home depot or menard to open up to purchace one. Please help me, this is my first investment and I don't have alot of money. Am I on the right track about the clog drainers ? And I thinking it is the pipes knocking what can be done or do I go without eating for a month and call someone in? Thanks in advance.

we are buying a new house on a small estate. Knowing how builders sometimes cut corners on materials like the number of joists in a floor and the amount of wood in the roof structure, is it worthwhile getting a local surveyor to check the construction a couple of times while the house is being built?

I have an active 2 year old and an 11 month old, who barely leaves my side. We have a 2 level home, so I'm constantly going up and down the stairs. As I'm trying to get something, like bathrooms cleaned, the girls are right there and that grosses me out, because they like to touch everything. Suggestions???
