The house was built in 1965 and I had it inspected and the structure was fine. What could be the problem? I did find bricks in the toilet bowl. I asked of the longstanding neighbor about this and she said the brick was to conserve water by the first owners
(I'm the fourth) but the toilet water ran slowly and now water is coming up from both bathroom tubs and laundry drainers. In essense I have two problems. I read answers on ASK about stubborn toilet clogs and learned about using a toilet auger. I am waitng for home depot or menard to open up to purchace one. Please help me, this is my first investment and I don't have alot of money. Am I on the right track about the clog drainers ? And I thinking it is the pipes knocking what can be done or do I go without eating for a month and call someone in? Thanks in advance.

If the knocking happens when you turn on the heat, it is the sound of ducts/pipes expanding from the heat. If it happens when you use the water, it is air in the pipes.

If water is backing up, you need to know if you have a septic tank or sewer service. If you have a septic tank, the thing is full. You need to call a company to come out and pump it before you use ANY MORE water!

If you don't have a septic tank, you probably have a clogged main sewer line, which you are 100% better off calling a plumber than doing it yourself if you've never done it before. It's cheaper in the long run because you may end up pushing it further in the line, while they will pull out the suspect item (underwear/tampons are common culprits).

Worst case, sometimes a drain pipe (in ground) will break and fill with dirt and sand and is costly and a PITA to get fixed. Cross your fingers it's not this one!

The toilet that fills slowly possibly is not turned on all of the way (the little handles behind the toilet) OR the lines or connections (on the wall behind the toilet) are old and nasty and need to be replaced because they are corroding. Again, if you do not know what you are doing, have the plumber do this. You have to turn off the water main to your house to replace the valves, or you will get shot in the face with water.

Well, hope I helped.

That is just Normal. All homes have noises of some sort. As for your toilets clogging, they make a Liquid Plummer that is safe on all pipes and I pour into my commodes and sinks on a monthly basis. It must help because I have never had a clogged toilet (knocking on wood)

Why don't you just call the plumber. It may turn out to be cheaper and less frustrating that way.
We just had a plumber to my house to auger out the kitchen sink and it cost $190, which is cheaper than the tools he used.

Good Luck!
