We live in an area with high water table, currently about 2 inches below ground level. Land is also heavy clay pan. Subsequently when it rains the site floods to several inches & takes days to drain away. Problem compounded by rain water from roof draining into soak away in already soaked garden. There are no visible drains to tap into, these seem to pass under house and if there were any outside of house, they are now buried under extension built before we moved here! Ground slopes towards back of property and have been told that, even if a drain could be found, to lay another to join it may make the new drain too shallow. Have tried one contractor but they offer no solutions. Anyone else been here? We can live with a soggy lawn but wading through several inches of water in wellies just to get the rubbin bin is not a novelty. We understand that, in summer, the land dries out, not lived here long so yet to see. All help really appreciated.

I live in the south. Anyone have an idea (per square) what it would cost to: Rip off one single layer of asphault shingles, one layer of wood shingles, re-deck with plywood, and re-roof with asphault?

I am running a cable to the house from the garage for a 200 amp service panel, and have the cable through the conduit, but getting it into the l-body to run it up inside the garage wall is proving impossible, the four wire 4/0 cable just does not want to bend so tightly.

I am considering getting a Whrilpool Duet GHW9400 or a LG Bromm SteamWash WM2487HRM. I have heard that putting a front load washer on the second floor is not a good idea because of excessive vibration. If you have had this problem and found a way to resolve it, can you let me know what worked for you? Thanks!

I live in a small home (buillt mid -1950's) in the midwest. I want to replace the ceramic tile currently in kitchen/bath with something that is easier to maintain but that will still look nice. (I don't like the ceramic because its a) white, b) any thing made of glass that falls on the floor is guaranteed to break, and c) I absolutely cannot keep the grout clean, no matter what I do!) I would like the flooring I select to go well with the original hardwoods that are found throughout the rest of the home. I also want to select something that will appeal to buyers in a few years when we sell. The homes in our area sell for around $145K so I want to select flooring that is appropriate for this price range. Any ideas? Thanks!

My house circuit breaker box is full. All breakers are Square D, QO type, and all are 10A. They don't make twin breakers in 10A so I have to jump to another box or replace the box I have. What is the better course to take? All I know about my total amps is I have 25, 10 amp breakers.

I bought a brand new cool mist humidifier. I wash it everyday and refill with cool clean water and its only a week or so old. The past couple of days it has been giving off a musty smell. Any ideas on how to get rid of it?

I can't get it to go all the way up at once. I have to double tap my open button once it stops and it's been acting up going down too. It goes about half way down and re-opens but the light does not flash. It doesnt seem to hang up on anything and it's always in the same spots. I've adjusted the force and everything but no change. I've even unpuged it and let it sit a while just in case it developed some sort of memory.

I'm trying to remove wallpaper and I've got wallpaper stripper which is not working. The wallpaper is coming off in little itty bitty pieces which is driving me nuts. It's taking forever! I know sometimes they say use a putty knife to scrape it off but that messes up the wall underneath badly. Is there any other easy ways to remove wallpaper?? Any suggestions gladly accepted. Thanks!

I bought new 400 thread count bed linens, but they are not as soft as I expected. It must be cheaper cotton. How can I make them softer? I've washed them once already, but they are still rough. Is there anything I can put in the washing machine besides fabric softener to make them softer? Please advise. Thank you.

Part of the selling point of a concrete home is the thermal mass of the walls. Would it make sense to run what amounts to geothermal tubing through the walls (easiest w/ a round concrete home), hook up a heat pump, and heat the house that way? Seems like it would take a lot of coordination between the HVAC people and the foundation-pouring/concrete folks, but also seems like it would be very efficient. This is something I would have in mind for a future home to be build when I retire.

Get them out! Kill them dead! Obliviate them! Can't spray, no chemicals, boric acid hasn't worked. I bought a used Refrigerator and right about the same time I got new neighbors. Not sure which is to blame, but now my house is absolutely infested with roaches. I have a 1-1/2year old boy and a ten year old girl with asthma/breathing problems. I've taken us off for the weekend and bombed and scrubbed 3 times no effect. I swear the roaches laugh at me. I heard, from a friend of a friend, that someone bought a couple of salamanders and just let them loose in their house and this took care of their roach problem. Does anyone think this would work? What would be the drawbacks or problems? Any other remedies?

Not looking for cigarette lighter plugs - told they can't handle alot of current. Need something thats easily accessible off the shelf. Thought about using regular 120 plugs and receptacles, but I also plan on wiring an inverter circuit to it and didnt want to accidentally plug something into the wrong plug. I will be trucking the battery to and from the camp so I need something that connects easily. I plan on wiring the 12 volt accessories with their owns special plug instead of using the cigarette lighter ends.
