I am considering getting a Whrilpool Duet GHW9400 or a LG Bromm SteamWash WM2487HRM. I have heard that putting a front load washer on the second floor is not a good idea because of excessive vibration. If you have had this problem and found a way to resolve it, can you let me know what worked for you? Thanks!

Front load washers are know for vibrating more then a top load because they spin at much higher speeds. This is why I am concerned about it being on the second floor.

I have a Maytag front loader and I find there is much less vibration than with the top loaders. I have never had a problem with vibration. There is a liquid in the drum that the washer uses for balancing thus cutting down on the vibration. I don't know if the Wirlpool or LG have the same you might want to check. You can find out by turning the drum - you will hear the liquid when you spin it manually. The front loaders are much more water efficient - I love mine.

As long as you balance it properly, it is not a problem. The real problem comes if the door seal blows and soaks the floor, or the feed hose breaks. Make sure you put in steel-reinforced hoses, and turn off the water to the washer when going out of town.
