We have just scrubbed 250 years worth of grime off my sons cottage beams, they are now a nice mellow colour, how do we treat them? Someone suggested beeswax, another person said varnish, any ideas out there?

I live in north eastern Montana about 50 miles south of the canadian border. Temperatures during the year go from 100 degrees in the summer to 40 degrees below zero in the winter. I have a couple of Praire Spy trees that seem to be doing alright but I want to have the biggest apples possible in the shortest growing period. It has been known to freeze here up to May 20th and it has snowed on the first of June some years.

Its just your average store bought Baking sheet. However, it would appear to be covered in what looks like grease. I know, it sounds gross! I do wash it after EVERY use, but still, it looks disgusting! Please help!

i know there are products to paint tile, wuote decorate, but the whole wall, i am confused, they are clean, and easy to clean. even in the tub area when the grout gets dirty, u clean and reseal.
why change it unless u take it down and redo?

The toilet was clogged up so my brother put a snake in the toilet and he never did it before and stuck it in the wrong hole. We tried like hell to pull it out, but noting doing! So we removed the toilet and we are trying to decide whether or not to bust the toilet up and pull out the snake, because a neighbor owns the snake. Or we can just cut it off and leave it in, and pay the person for the snake and than we can just put the toilet back on with the cut off snake in it.

What should we do? Is this snake in the air hole (or whatever the hole is called) going to cause any kind of problems. Or is it woth forking out the hundred and some bucks for the new toilet?

Also, is it possible to just buy the toilet bowl, and disconnect the old tank and use it? (to save money)?

I was doing some kitchen cleaning today with a bleach product and apparently got my argyle sweater in a few small spots. Can I do anything to restore the color to this sweater? Some information:

-It is a 50/50 rayon cotton blend
-There are about 6 little bleached dots ranging in size from a pea to a dime, all within the same "diamond."
-The old color was light mocha, the new color is that familiar bleach orange.

I really love this sweater and I hope I can salvage it. Thanks everyone!

I recently hired a small construction/design company to do some small living room remodeling for me. This involved putting up drywall and painting. They said they would be done in 3 days, and they were. The problem was the work was done very sloppy. There are "tape" lines visible in the wall, paint on our carpet, coffee tables, and brand new $800 fireplace. We called the owner, and he gave us alot of attitude on the phone, but sent the guy back out to correct everything. He came back out, but could not get all of the paint off the fireplace, and the tape lines are still there, as well as new "puddy" marks where he tried covering up other things. I don't want them coming back out, cause who knows what they'll do next, do I have to keep giving them the opprotunity to fix it, or can I just tell them to get lost? We have a contract that he signed, but he never had me sign it, and it says "payment due upon completion", but it is not complete. Can I stiff them?

I'm not crazy. I love the color, the way it feels underfoot, that it doesn't need mowing under the trees where roots damage the blades. What does everyone have against moss anyway?

Does anyone use an electric fireplace? If so, is your electric bill huge? Does it warm a room? How often do you use it? We'd like to eventually have a gas one put in, but we're thinking about an electric one for the time being....?

It isn't clogged, so I don't need Draino or anything like that, but it smells bad. I've tried to put baking soda down it and then run hot water, but that hasn't helped. I've also tried to pour "OUT" pet odor remover down there...
I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions?
