Just ask. If you consistently say "Honey, would you mind taking your dishes out of the sink and putting them in the dishwasher?" every single time he doesn't, it will start to sink in and become automatic.
See, he will learn (like a trained puppy) that he can either put them in the dishwasher now or he can have to come back in the kitchen later and do it.
If he flat out refuses, then you have more than just dirty dishes as an issue. You need to address the lack of respect issue.
Good luck.

There really isn't a way to get him to do this. This is one of the things that are built into a persons belief system and change has to come from the inside of himself. You could try telling him in a loving way but this probably will not change how he feels regarding loading dishes. The basic thought process that he will probably have is what he will be doing next once he starts loading the dishes. He probably thinks that washing and folding clothes will be next on the list. This type of belief system is very difficult to change although it can be done but with much, much love. Unfortunately these are issues that need to be addressed before a serious relationship takes effect and many couples do not realize how much of an issue these things really are until it is too late. The best you can do is give him loving friendly reminders until he makes the change from within.

probably he thinks with all the rummaging and clanking around YOU'RE doing that you've had sense enough to run the dishwasher. And before he goes to bed he thinks he's unloading clean dishes. Why not run the dishwasher when you get it loaded for a change. Seems like a simple enough thing to figure out, to me.

My wifes best friend took and trew away all the dishes cuz her boyfriend wouldn't wash them or put them in the dishwasher and yelled at her about the dirty dishes all the time. So she said you either take care of your own dishes or I'll throw them away and you'll have to buy me more. Well he had to buy her new ones and now he takes care of his own dishes.

Put other things on the counter around the sink and in the sink, leave the dishwasher open until he gets the idea.

Fill the sinks full of dirty dishes and just let them set there. If you can stand it put pot and pans that have been used on the countertops. Just let your kitchen go for one whole week and see what he has to say and do!!Lots of Luck you need it!

Make a big X across the sink with painters tape. It's not so easy to plop dishes in there.

You probably don't want him loading the dishwasher, because he's too stupid to know how to do it correctly, as many people are.
