I've never been able to do this. How do you find studs behind plaster walls?? And if I happen to find one, is there a standard spacing of studs in a house from 1947?? I bought a stud finder and it didnt work. Thanks!!

I'm looking for a new house to buy. Finally, I've found a very nice new home community with prices that I can afford.
The problem, they have a big house (for me!) about 2700 sf with no upgrades and no nice view - decent light though. They have a house about 2200 sf that have the same price, but several upgrades and a partial mountain view.
The difference is mainly larger bedrooms and living/dining areas in the first, plus an additional den.
Which house would you buy?

is it dangerous to put in a plastic plug into the outlet (you know, the kind people use to baby-proof their houses, etc.) to prevent anyone from using it? i ask because i don't know how whether i will ever get it fixed because i have so many outlets at my disposal and i don't really know how. i just wonder if it is okay to put in one of those plastic things. again, as before, if you have an expertise in the area, that is most appreciated! thank you.

If I take out a major root of a tree that is cracking my foundation near the house, will I create the potential for the tree to fall toward the house? What is the risk for the tree when you cut a major root? The tree is 120-feet tall and only 5 feet from the house, so we don't want to damage the tree or create a situation where it may fall and kill us in our sleep.

I have a squeaky floorboard right in the middle of my bathroom floor.
My bathroom has a fitted carpet + underlay.
Is there a way to stop it squeaking with or without lifting the carpet.

I have been getting very big slugs (1.5 - 2.5+ inches long) in my house, in particular, the kitchen where my pantry (food cupboard) is. How can I get rid of them without using poisons or chemicals?
I have two cats, 7 months old and 8 weeks old. The 7 month old is always playing with them and I have seen her lick one once. Is this dangerous? Can she get sick?

Thanks for your responses.

I was sending potato peels to their reward when my garbage disposal stopped draining. I know the blades still move because I used a wooden spoon in the GD while it was turned on. The blades hit the spoon. I have used drain declogger with no luck. I also disconnected the hose leading from the GD and drained it, but still it does not work. I have used hot water. I even pushed the red button on the bottom of the GD. The only thing I did not do was disconnect the other end of the hose.
