I was sending potato peels to their reward when my garbage disposal stopped draining. I know the blades still move because I used a wooden spoon in the GD while it was turned on. The blades hit the spoon. I have used drain declogger with no luck. I also disconnected the hose leading from the GD and drained it, but still it does not work. I have used hot water. I even pushed the red button on the bottom of the GD. The only thing I did not do was disconnect the other end of the hose.

The most likely spot for the line to be plugged is at the trap, (the "s" or "p" shaped area of the drain. You can either take that apart and clean it out, (usually a messy job, but not real complicated), or you can make sure the joint nuts are all good and tight, and fill the GD side of the sink with water, then be sure to insert the plug in the off side and turn on the GD. Frequently this push of the water from the GD will flush the peels out of the trap and on their way. You do, however, as I said, have to make sure the joints are all good and tight. If one is loose, you could blow the water and the peels and everything else that's in the line out, under the sink.. Good luck which ever way you go.

it depends on the age of the unit, wheather it has blades or grinders, there should be a hole for an allen key to spin it manually.
make sure the power is off. do not stick your wooden spoon in again understood???

if you spin it freely , then check the p trap for clogs

Remove the pipes and clean them out. Have a bucket ready of course. It's probably plugged in the trap, after the disposal.

you could try a wet vac - but the trap may be the place those peels wound up.
clean out the trap and use the garbage can next time.
