For more of a contemporary look and to warm up the room use some harvest or sunflower gold or a cream and harvest gold combination.
Green would be nice also. Like a moss or an olive green. You could add some silver or metallic gold with this combination in the paper or as a wash over paint, and/or in your accessories.

For burgandy carpet, I would start with one of the lighest shades from either the red color line, ie.... pinks, purples, mauve, whites of almost every color, ie... Tan , beige, ecru, and many others. I would stay away from the blue lines, as this would really clash with the carpet. All white trim or light stained trim would work well with any of the colors. Or for a twist... Assuming that you have a 4 walled room, paint all 4 walls bright white. One the largest wall, (the one with the largest amount of actual wall space, rag roll your pinks, mauves, or light purples. You would still match the carpet, making the scheme work, plus you would be able to add a bit of flare, and invidivuality.

Since the room is already dark, and you have dark carpeting, go with a color in the white family- i.e., tan, cream, etc. Using a creamy color on the wall with a pure white trim is a sharp look, and would help to make the most of the light you have.

Depends on the amount of light that is in the room and the color of the furnishings. I think a nice tan, slightly darker than khaki with crisp bright white trim might work nicely.

White and neutral tones are a great way of combining different decorative styles as they act as a neutral transition zone between one style and the other.
