I have a couple of old small appliances from the 1920's-1930's (Toaster, hair dryer, space heater, electric kettle stove) in my house, and in all the time I have never had one break down once, and these things are beautifully made in art deco style and have lasted 70-80 years. On the flip side, I have had expensive hair dryers, toasters etc that have given out after a year or two. What do you think is better quality, does anyone else use vintage applicances?

Our 16 lb Lhasa Apso stole three german sausages that were cooling on the counter last night when I turned my back, and blithely ate them all on the beautiful new overstuffed microfiber (faux suede) covered lounge chair. I got a microfiber wash cloth, and some paper towels, and some "orange stuff" and did my best to break up the stains, gently using the cloth, then lightly wiping with clean paper towels...and waited till this a.m. to see how it was. It is better but not completely gone. I'm starting to think along the lines of the old stuff we used to get for grease stains called Energine. I really don't know what to do. Suggestions?

Our basement bedroom does not have insulation in ceiling between joists but it is possible to insulate from another area that is not finished but I would have to use the insulation which is blown in between the joists. Is this a good insulation and is it practical to do for noise reduction? Otherwise, we would have to tear out the ceiling in the bedroom and use the fiberglass insulation. Do you have any other ideas or suggestions for noise reduction? This is a new home.

Why do they only make energy saving light bulbs with the pin (bayonet) connection? A lot of people have screw connectors and have to use the ordinary bulbs.

Hi all,

I'm having a hosta problem. Soon after I got my hosta, I noticed small black bugs which I thought to be ants in the plantbox and sometimes on the hosta plant I have. I ignored them for awhile, and then discovered one morning their was a spherical, fuzzy, white/orange ball (about the size of a large marble?) which had completely encircled two of the hosta leaf stems (the leaf stem were dying). We cut off both leaves with the fuzzy ball, thinking maybe it was some type of fungus. Ever since then, I've noticed that in addition to my little black "ants" (Which I'm thinking may not be ants?) there are these little white fuzzy insects which like to hang out at the base of the hosta in between the leaf stems and on the underside of the leaves. I've been scraping them off whenver I see them, but my hosta is still suffering somewhat. What are these things??

PS--I live in a 2nd floor apartment, so my hosta is not exposed to anything on ground level, unless it came with the hosta...

We are redoing a room in our basement and currently it has no heat and/or cooling source. I had heard that a room, in order to be considered a finished room, needed a built in heat source i.e. heating vent or baseboard heating. What are the requirements?

I bought a House from Rajhans in Indirapuram of 1100Sq.Ft as super area. Now they are saying that the size is increased to 1110 sq. ft and asking me to pay money for 10sq. ft. The size of my house is not increased however they are saying the super area is increased. I want to know if this is something normal with all the known builders like Mahagun, Gaur Green City, Amarpali, Shipra Sun City, Express Garden etc. or this is with RajHans Builders. Also during the possesion I do not know what all extra expenses they may put on me.
Also someone can tell me about credibility of RajHans as now I think I made a mistake going with Rajhans, ANY Help in this regards will be highly appreciated by me.

falling from the balconies or so tubes. my first question is: was it simply the reason of bad tubes? it would sound wierd though, since it was ALL over the town, not just some houses, and second, this was during the middle of the summer, no rain, nothing, and i suppose do people water their balconies 24/7?? because the water was like dripping all the time.

i thought that was really odd, so what was that? is it common in athens to see this water dripping??

in my next question ill ask another question over something unexplainable that happened to me on that trip that had to do with 'water'.....
