(manufacured home..aka trailer) My parents are in the process of buying one that looks like a regular house.(it has a gabled/pitched roof). Is there ANY way to protect the sides during a hurricane? They are getting a custom steel roof that will fit snuggly against the other one and blend into the home..I know that anything you 'add' on to it cannot be attached and must support it's own weight..(the steel roof has it's own support system)..Besides some trees or bushes to act as wind breakers, what other options are there?? (it is going to be set on a foundation.) is there anyway to reinforce the walls of a stick built home? could it be done the same way?

We rent a small apartment in Miami with a tiny bedroom. It's HOT outside right now, probably 90 degrees at night.
Since it started getting hot out, our window A/C unit can't cool off the room.
It freezes on the inside, ice blocks the vents, no cold air comes out. Then, suddenly, you'll hear the loud *** noise of ice shooting right out of the vents. Naturally, the only way to unfreeze it is to turn it off, so the ice defrosts and then drips everywhere.
All the while, the room has never become remotely cool.

Anyone have a solution other than calling the landlord? I've already left a message but we all know how long THAT could take...

I heard that if a house is sold by a realtor and the house gets sold the realtor gets a big cut of that money for profits so it's best if sold by owner, Is this true?

I was wondering if there are student interior decorators who will do some designs for a small fee which they can use for their portfolio. How much do most students ask for? I'm thinking of asking for a designer's help but can't afford the high professional fees.
